Depends on what country you are in. Here in the Philippines its YM. My friends in Singapore and Malaysia love MSN.

I used Yahoo Messenger and Skype for Chat. I like Skype for Video / Audio Conference call and i can share files in no time. i can also share my pc to the one i am talking to. I use Yahoo Messenger because most of my friends have this installed on their pc. I think they haven't tried Skype yet. But to compare the two, i would choose Skype in terms of speed and quality of audio and cam. But if you were the person who likes typing more, you put audibles and more icons, then Yahoo messenger is for you to use.

Well, for me Windows Live Messenger is getting better and better. Many Modifications have been done, lots of things have been added.

At first I hated Skype because I always figured it was overrated. However, NOW I love Skype, you can instant message and do voice/video calls at no charge. If you wanted something a little smaller and something that runs easier, I suggest Windows Live Messenger. I suggest Skype or Windows Live Messenger.
