So now that I have caught your attention...
Some of you know that I work at a hospital, for those of you who don't, well now you do. I have unfortunately seen something disgusting, and now fully understand my roommates' disgust with the human race (mainly because she took a type of biology class and knows FULLY how the human body works he he) ANYWHO, what did I see? You want to know what I saw? I'LL TELL YOU SO THE REST OF YOU CAN CRINGE IN DISGUST LIKE I HAVE!
We have attendants who handle the meals of all the patients in the hospital (as hospitals do) so they tend to have HUGE carts to put all of the trays on, both when bringing to the patients, and for the cleanup...see where I'm going yet? If not, I'll help you!
A person walking by, TAKES a HALF EATEN SANDWICH from one of the trays, keeps walking, while munching on it...Half eaten, so clearly this is not at the beginning, this is during cleanup!
The attendants who handle this? THEY KNOW not to do this, because they know where this food is going, to sick patients, who may be contagious, may not be, but I think they basically sign a waver saying they won't do this, in the event that this happens, they can't sue ANYBODY!
I'm not sure who this person is, if he works here, I should have stopped him, but I was just SHOCKED that he done this, all of a sudden he was around the corner and out of site.
I SHOULD have stopped him and asked him if he knew where the food was coming from, OR if he would like to go up to the labs to be tested in a few days, since we couldn't do anything THEN! JUST YUCK!
Have you seen something as disgusting as this? PLEASE describe! So I can feel better....or feel sorry for people in general now ha ha.

you can never tell he might have just become homeless and thats all the clothes he had
Yup we have some places for them to stay and several places for them to eat.
but you think about it almost 6,000 homeless a month move in here we have ran out of places fore them to stay.
My son hates to go up one street for all there is . os people sleeping in the street or the side of the street!

Unfortunately, as savvypat pointed out, that is the case usually in the states, and they have no choice...well they do, they just don't have confidence.
But 1) We have a hostel attached to the other side of the building, for people who can't afford housing during their treatments, or homeless in general, and they get free meals as they're staying.
and 2)...he was well dressed ha ha.
Thanks for responding!

Considering more and more people in US are having to eat out of trash dumpsters right now I'm not to upset about this. On the face of it it sounds like a very disgusting thing, but these days I am less apt to judge. When people are short of food or just come from that situation they form bad habits and have a different view
point of left over food. Blessings

This is true, with prices of food going up and paychecks stagnating or disappearing, many Americans and others around the world are being forced to scavenge for their next meal, especially families with children. It's a sad truth, but at a hospital I can't see somebody doing that without knowing the risk, so it would be their choice.

I can see where you were so shocked you did not say anything, however the person placed himself in great danger. He should have been been stopped and advised that what he was doing could land him in hospital also or kill him or one of his loved ones. Maybe he was so desperate and so hungry he did not care or think of the possible consequences. No reasonable person of sound mind would do this unless he or she was absolutely desperate.

I agree, but he was well dressed, and also acted as if he didn't care as he sauntered off with the food.

That's definitely gross. Sometimes people just like to take unnecessary risks -- I wonder if this fellow was relatively young? It could be that whole "young invincible" mindset that people often have when they're younger at work. I don't think I ever thought I was truly invincible, but I often didn't stop to think about the riskiness of everything I did and was more impulsive when I was younger. It's not always such a bad thing to be impulsive, but it can lead you to some dangerous and yucky situations too!

That is just gross!! Not knowing who or where the sandwich was before he took it and ate it is just wrong!! I use to work in a nursing home and a couple of the aids would eat food off of the residents trays if the residents didn't want it. They knew the resident and if they had anything, but i still thought it was just gross to do that!! Heck I don't even like it when my kids eat off of each others plates and that is in the same family. I think it is just rude and makes you look like a pig!
