So here this is. I had used my laptop at work when i was working for this consturction company and i had used it to transfer things off of his computer that had crashed onto my laptop and then the laptop crashed and i brought it to best buy to have it fixed. Then i decided to just get his things off of it that he needed. Well best buy decided to let him have the computer and its not even his and now he has the computer and wont give it back. I called best buy to see when the computer was picked up and the said on February 4th i have texted my old boss to make him aware of this. So now my parents have decided to get the cops involved to get me the computer back. Since i believe it to be at his house so im sure the cops will go there soon to see and then probably prosecute him for theft because he has something that does not belong to him. Hopefully he makes the right choice and gives the computer back and there wont be any problem.

That is a really interesting situation. I would take action against the person who released it to him. I don't understand why the person at Best Buy would have allowed him to pick it up, unless he used some sort of shady method to trick them into releasing it.
As for getting the police involved, I agree that if he stole your computer this should be done. Do you know where he lives? Have you tried going to his home to get it back?
Good luck!

You do a favour to a person and they repay you by stealing your computer, real nice. I certainly would get the police involved and if you cannot get it back take him to small claims court. I do not know if you can claim against Best Buy. I would suppose the old boss brought the computer in so they let him have it back. Computer laptops are too expensive to replace.
