Slow news day, or what?

Alex Rodriguez - Baseball player Alex Rodriguez, also known as A-Rod

While surfing through the television channels a little while ago, I zipped past three news channels in a row, CNN,Headline News and Fox News. All three of them were covering live the Alex Rodriguez press conference where he was going to elaborate on his steroid usage while with the Texas Rangers. While I realize that baseball and sports are an important part of many people's lives, I cannot help but scratch my head and wonder why this is so important that all three of those news channels carried it live. What, there was nothing more important going on? No missing children, no murders, no politicians babbling on and on about nothing? I just cannot believe there was no news! Is baseball or sports that important to you? Do you even care what A-Rod did or did not do?

Hey fwidman! I must tend to agree with you on this! I couldn't care less what A-Rod did all those years ago! I like baseball, but what the hell difference does it make if he did use steroids back then? Are they going to take back his awards or the money that he make? I doubt it! And the list of others that used them is plenty so what are we supposed to do? To me that is old news and definitely not newsworthy! There are too many other important things going on! I just don't understand! Like you said, I guess there weren't any kiddnappings or murders or political stuff that was urgent enough to report on at the time! How pathetic!

It is pathetic! Unless they are going to punish the man, just let it be already. I like David Ortiz's take, forget what happened before the stuff was banned, test everyone several times a year and if they are caught using it NOW, ban them from baseball for one year. If they start losing their high paychecks they will stop using steroids

I am so NOT into it I can hardly find the right words to express how much I am not into it. I really do not find the reason for such news. I do understand that young up and coming sports oriented kids might be drawn into it because I guess in that world it is big news. Sports people have a responsibility to their fans especially young kids. I would not want to see kids think that this is an OK thing because it is so NOT OK!!!!! So in this respect I can see that it is important. Overall.....Not......Just My opinion

It isn't so important that they have to pretend that this is the biggest news of the day. Especially when the President had a press conference type thing just an hour or so later

Thanks. Please, in the future, do not include links like this one as it may get the entire discussion deleted and I hate to see that happen

No, it isn't news at all! News is something important that could affect a lot of people. Celebrities and their troubles don't affect that many people, or at least the average person I try not to watch the news mostly because it is depressing

I'm a Major League Baseball fan, but honestly, the use of steriods does not spark my interest. I do not think it is a good thing, but whether or not a particular player is using or not, really isn't that big of a deal to me. It seem to me that this is always a topic when it comes to "big name" players and it is those players that seem to get attacked more than others. I've noticed that the "steriod" problem seems to be more of a HOT topic with Major League Baseball than it is with any other sport. Have you noticed that? You don't hear NBA, NFL, NHL players, or WWE wrestlers for that matter having LIVE televised coverage about their steriod use. And honestly, if steriods is an issue in MLB then why isn't it a major issue with other athletes who play other professional sports?

I really don't care what they do. Micheal Phelps, and none of the others. I don't know why it is a big deal anyway. They need to be talking about getting me some medical assistance.

I agree! The newspeople should be more concerned with what is going on with us "common folks' and not some mamby-pamby millionaires that can afford anything they want or need

Its a decoy, don't cha know. B.O. and his club are wanting anything to take focus off their silly little spats about destroying the economy. I'm watching cartoons, so much more fun and honest. Who cares what A-Wad did, he'll never get into the Hall of Fame but he's been inducted into the Hall of Shame already.

Cartoons are more fun than the news, that's for sure. So are Hispanic channel soap operas, at least the women are dressed nice and look sexy I saw Obama also had a news conference of some sort, guess it's a good thing he waited until A-rod was done

I'D RATHER WATCH THE WEATHER CHANNEL. Base ball to me is just a boring sport, my husband says I just don't understand it. But I don't have to understand it to know I don't want to spend my time watching grown men scratch their behinds and spit, even though these things are a secret language that the other team doesn't recognize. Once in a while I will watch the last inning if the game is tied.

I like watching baseball, but I can do without A-Rod or even the Yankees. Baseball can be boring to watch, but that holds true for all sports unless you are truly interested in them
