This is one of many shots I got of one of the many squirrels that are thiefing the birdseeds from my feeder out front. Dad and I love watching thier antics as they climb and scurry all around to get at the seeds. The only thing that stops them is my going outside startling them, or the blackbirds chasing them away so they can steal the seeds. Do you have a feeder that the squirrels just love the steal from? Do you have a lot of birds visiting your feeder during the cold months at all?

I avoid the nuts.
They get buried, then if forgotten they sprout.

We have a lot of birds around here. I don't have a feeder for them but the people behind us do. The other day they also turned on their sprinkler to water the grass and the birds loved it. The squirrels around here I see in the yard ever so often getting something off or out of the ground but mostly I see them running on roof tops and jumping from tree to tree and chasing each other up and down the trees.

Hubby has not filled feeders here in a few years. We put out critter corn on an old stump for the squirrels. Iknow we get possums, and fox as well.

I don't have a bird feeder, but I do have an old exhaust pipe sticking out high up in a sheltered area that the birds like to call home.

So they nest in it then?
Do you toss bread or anything in the yard for them at all?

Just the moldy stuff... If and when they start paying rent and stop messing up the alcove, I might consider feeding them the good stuff.

Hi Grandpa Bob! We do have some birds nesting at our backyard tree and we don't really feed them. I guess they do have a lot of food from the plants and trees within our yard. lol..and there are no squirrels running around here..lol! But there are cats that frequent our house and we do feed them each time they come. haha..
Take care and have a great day!

My squirrel like the suet instead of the seeds. I had a crow for the first time today and he was hungry for both entrees!
I saw the funniest thing today--my feeder is round and hangs by a hook and will spin at times. One poor little bird was running on the perch as the feeder spun around! It was funny and he finally just spun with it and continued eating.

Those squirrels sure are the rascals when it comes to being birdseed thieves. lol I didn't set my feeders up this winter since I can't fill them but it hasn't detered them from tearing open my recycle bags and eating the old dog/cat food residue out of the cans that didn't get rinsed out. I finally gave up bagging them and just put them in a pile outside and when we are ready to take them in, they are usually picked clean and just scoop them all in bags.

They're cute alright but they ARE little theifs! I have a couple of bird feeders and a bird condo and the squirrels are forever going after the bird seed. I hate it because they have so many acorns just laying around waiting for them to pick up and yet they go after my bird food. Go figure. lol

I actually chase them away when dad isn't looking. I hate them really.
But they entertain dad for the most part so I do put up with them during the colder months. I am lucky that we don't have acorns in our area.

We have more than enough birds. We even have an owl around here too. But our one bird feeder broke some time ago. And we haven't replaced it. SO the only time I feed them is when I toss out a left over piece of toast.

Most of our birds migrate for the winter. We do have an owl that lands on our bird feeder across the road, that sits on a post. He's there every morning just after sun up and isn't seen again until the next day. He sits there for about 10 minutes, still as a statue and watches the deer make their way back to the valley. As for squirrels, we don't have many any time in the Prairies and I rather miss them...

We have an American Bald Eagle that soras above us daily in the warmer months.
I think it heads to the Mississippi River a mile away to fish for food. It is awesome seeing it soaring above my yard in the city.

That is really cute. I'm from the Philippines and we don't have squirrels here. Is it true that they are considered as pest in your country? I think they are cute but I often see it in movies that people are always shooing them away! Hehe!

Hey Grandpa Bob! That is so cute! All he has to do is come out
of his hole and he is at his "restaurant"! I bet it's fun
watching what they do! I don't have a bird feeder but I do
get to watch the squirrels running around trying to find food
wherever they can. And some of the neighbors feed them some
bread sometimes. So the birds and the squirrels grab whatever
the can and it's fun to see who gets there first!

Theyu are a poian in the butt as well at times.
We had one chew a hole in our roof to get into a warm
area a few years back. They can tear up a house if they get inside.

I've seen a lot of birds coming over to my garden not because of the feeder but of the flowers. And also I have some leftover put in the garden. The birds seem to like it.

As it happens... lol. I live in a flat and my downstairs neighbour has two feeders full of peanuts hanging on his shed. Every so often, a squirrel comes by and takes one over and I have a shot of him. More than that, I have a pic of him standing atop the hedge daring me to tackle him. He looks as though he's going to fly at me. I'll post them here for you to see.
I love your pic... you get some great shots, Grandpa Bob. Brightest Blessings.

I used to feed the birds I still have the feeders but I haven't bought any feed in a long time now. Maybe I will start back feeding them again. I did enjoy watching the many species of birds feeding from the feeders and it did attract other little wildlife creatures too.
