So I need glasses...have since i was little (my first pair was when i was about 4..theyre so little and cute) Its time to get new ones (and i finally got health insurance through work that covers part!). My problem was...my eye doctor i saw last died because he fell asleep at the wheel and hit a semi...his partner always made me feel uncomfortable so i dont want to see him...plus its a 2 hour drive there and 2 hours back. So i decided to go to the one locally...Except she's not taking new patients. So my mom had me call to make appointments with her and my younger sister because they've been patients before. Well...they took me. Now i feel sneaky and alittle underhanded but I'm so totally looking forward to glasses that aren't ducttaped together! Have you ever gotten into a dr this way? What do you do if no doctors are taking new patients?

i wouldnt do that because you need your records to be under the right people.. what if your sister gets into a car wreck and they investigate and see that she (you) have horrible sight and if she isnt wearing glasses she could be held at fault.. this happen to my bro.. he used to wear glasses all the time and stopped and got into a wreck and it showed on his license that he wore them and the cop grilled him on it and said he could be found at fault and as reckless driving and endangerment because he wasnt wearing them and it says he should be.. not to mention what if you for some reason need to file disability in the future?? unless you go later to a different doctor before you file you cant prove that it was you therefore you dont have proof if your eyes are worse etc.. not to mention fraud charges all over the place from insurances and etc

I didnt mean that i used their name to make my appointment. I made my self and them appointments...as a family rather than just making me one and being refused. They've already transferred my eye records from the other guy as they said since i was family and technically i'm still under my dad's insurance for another 3 months...they said that since i am close family insurance sharer of another patient they wouldnt refuse me as a patient No fraud involved. I'm me Tamara's tamara and my moms my mom...three separate appointments.

Don't feel bad... sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. I once passed up the opportunity to sneak in like that to see a dermatologist and I still regret it. I ended up seeing a guy who was making appointments for new patients as soon as a week away. When I met him, I understood why. He was the worst. He was very late, was in a huge rush, didn't listen to me, didn't bother to take any time with me at all. He just wrote a prescription for a cream that I had tried before and did not work, and left. So, my point is, if you have the opportunity to get in to see a reputable doctor as opposed to someone with whom you do not feel comfortable, take it. It's a forgivable offense.

I have done that before. I was the main patient, then all kinds of my family members were accepted by my doctor because they were related to me. It is important sometimes, if there is a chronic illness, for instance, to maintain the treatments.

It is important. Good to know that you can get in some places if a family member has been there.

Hey saundyl! Don't feel bad! You have to have new glasses so whatever way you need to get them it doesn't matter as long as you get them! Your eyes are important! I wouldn't give it another thought! If I couldn't get an appointment with one doctor I would keep trying until I got one with someone! It wouldn't matter as long as I got an appointment! So you just go and get your eyes checked and get some new glasses!

wow, i learned something new in this post. that in your countries, doctors refuse to take new patients. here in our country, we don't have to have the same doctor. we can see any doctor we want and they do not refuse us. what if you had a doctor in one state and then worked and moved to another far state. do you really have to go to the same old doctor you had before? it is inconvenient. or there are some doctors who accept new patients, that you can go to?

You dont HAVE to go to the same doctor its just easier records wise. If your doctor moves you can still go to them however that mucks with provincial health insurance. and its just sometimes simpler to find a "new" doctor. However theres more patients than doctors and they do refuse new patients at times.
