How many of you have heard about what some of the people in Alaska are going through right now? I seen on the news that the stores are charging real high prices for food and some people has to eat only one meal a day and even do without eating some day's just to survive. 2 pound of cheese cost between 15 and 18 doller's, 5 pounds of apples is $15, one gal. of milk is $10, and a carton of eggs is $22. They also said that some residents are paying nearly $1,500 a month just to heat their home.
The state can not declare an emergency because of a state statute. Regardless of what the cost of living is, the statue requires the average income levels in the villages to drop below $26,500 before this can happen,
I think the Gov. needs to do something about this, how can these people get away with charging such high prices like this! I thought there was a low against price gauging.
What do you think about this?

hello sweetashoney
i haven't heard the news about the people that live in Alaska and that their groceries are so high in cost like that. that is awful. i guess that if grocery prices would hit like that here in the United States, lots of people here would also starve because they wouldn't be able to afford such high food prices like that. ten dollars for a gallon of milk? that would be awful if we went into the grocery store to buy milk and seen a price tag hanging there of ten dollars? it is bad enough to pay over three dollars a gallon for milk as it is. thanks so much for sharing this news with us all around here at Mylot. we all need to say a prayer for all of the people that live in Alaska right now with what that they are going through.
take care and have a beautiful evening.

This is whats so bad about it. Alaska is part of the United States, I think people just forgets that. I guess that's why its hard for me to believe that this type of thing is going on in our country.

I just looked Alaska up, I didn't want to steer you wrong. Alaska became part of the USA Jan.3 1959 and in the 49th state of America.

It certainly wasn't that expensive when I lived there. That is really hard to believe. I'm sure my brother would have told me how high the food was there. The bread wasn't expensive but it was always frozen when I lived in Juneau. The majority of groceries in Juneau have to be flown in. Keep in mind you just can't grown your own food. If you had a greenhouse to grow the stuff in, you still have to contend with the bears that would find that very tasty.
Alaska is a great State (not the present governor). It's a beautiful place to live and if you choose to live there you may have to put up with stuff that the lower 48 wouldn't have to. But lets face it, it sure beats living in the lower 48, hands down.
Heating can be expensive, but I had a fireplace so I just didn't rely on the electricity to heat the place.
Also, don't forget they receive their permanent dividend fund check every year. It is a privilege to live there and if you can't afford to pay a bit extra for groceries, then go back down and live in the lower 48.
My brother lives in Alaska and I am sure he would have mentioned the price of goods if this was true. May I ask where you got your information from?
The only thing that I thought was expensive was the price of renting apartments.

I know that this is kind if late to respond, but I just seen you reply. This was ON the world news. Check with your brother again, he just might not be telling you everything, or living in that part of Alaska.

Your right, this is crazy. When I seen this it I was shocked and outraged. So what if there's a state statute, these people need help! The US helps others in times of need some, so why can't this be stopped?
