One can't use water to stay awake. S/he has to go for coffee or tea for it. I use coffee in my office when I used to work in night shifts at my office!

well im reducing my caffeine intake so i would choose water over coffee, before i used to drink atleast 2 cups a day, thats every morning and afternoon. i love coffee,i even add lots of cream on my coffee i even make coffee shake. but a month ago i consulted a doctor because sometimes i feel dizzy especially every afternoon, he told me to reduce my caffeine intake, and thats it.

reallly?,/./ well caffeine has really a negative effect on our body. too much intake would worsen whateever you had in there. so that is why i advise you to take heed of that call. it would be better for you and for others as well. you could not have more than enough of it.. thanks

I'm not a coffee drinker, so I'd stay with water. I could state a lot of good things about staying with clear water than coffee, but I think you already know those. Anyhow, don't depend too much on coffee because sooner or later your coffee intake would be much higher than when you first started because the body would be immune to a cup of coffee so for it to have an effect you'd need 2 cups, and eventually you'd find yourself drinking coffee every hour. That's what you call caffeine dependence. Not to mention that coffee is more expensive than water.

surrender emote:water is the best drink. althletes should drink plentyof liquids, but they should watch when they drink- and when. liquids should be drunk especially before competitionand in smaller quantities during it, when the astomach's emptying rate slows down. water is better then sugared drink, which slow that process even more, says short. cold water is best, because it is absorbed more rapidly than water at higher temperatures. coffee can help

I don't drink coffee on a regular basis. I also work night shift, but I challenged myself not to drink coffee just to stay awake. Until now, I'm not dependent on coffee. I even drink milk during my night shift, and stay awake the whole time. I think it is just mind over matter thing.

Water replenishes the body that is why it is good to drink water. I am not a coffee lover and if we do drink coffee, it will be once or twice a week. My husband does not drink coffee too, he is more into drinking tea, but since every morning i use to give him fruit juice, so we always drink fruit juices as part of our breakfast. Coffee is an anti oxidant too they say but it has caffeine. And too much caffeine in the body is not good even doctors would recommend that to patients with heart problems. I myself avoid to drink coffee as much as i can because i am trying to conceive. And i have heard a lot in the forum that coffee will not help if you want to conceive.

I work graveyard shift so I'm used to drinking coffee frequently but I wouldn't say I'd prefer it than water. I drink coffee to keep me awake, too but you know, taking a lot of caffeine is really bad for our hearts so as much as I can, I drink it in moderation. Water is good 'cause it has electrolytes needed by our body. So, I try to make it to a point that I drink enough water for a day and coffee in moderation.

Maybe you're not getting enough sleep at night. Anyway, not just to say awake, I pick coffee for the taste. I love coffee.

I prefer both, I drink coffee in the morning just to warm my stomach and wake me up.But after drinking coffee I drink a plenty of water. Well, caffeine is not that good for our health, drinking orange juice in the morning is more healthy than coffee. But anyway, I still love to drink coffee once a day, I am a coffee drinker before. I drink around 2-3 cups of coffee but I gradually lessen it because I have palpitations and I can't barely sleep at night, so too much coffee makes me upset.

I think water is better to make you feel awake in the morning. If there was tea it would be nice as it keeps us alert. When i used to go to office in the morning or do the night shift.I will always have tea.It will make me feel alert and i can do my work without sleeping.

I would have to say the same, I always take coffee in work to keep myself alert and awake. I know water is better for you but it does not have the same kick as that coffee in the morning.

i drink coffee. but coffee lovers will hate me for saying this: i only drink decaf. :o i know, it may defeat the purpose of drinking coffee - IF your purpose was to stay awake. but my purpose was to just enjoy the taste. that said, let me get back to your problem. counting on coffee to wake you up is not entirely the best way to start the day. during the afternoon, your body will probably crash and you will feel tired the entire day. this fatigue is carried over to the next day especially if you didn't get enough sleep, creating a chain reaction. i've survived late nights and being on-call for days without ever depending on coffee. i hope these tips help you, although your coffee dependence may INITIALLY make these tips seem ineffective: 1. have a wakeup routine. every morning, develop a routine that will signal your brain that it's time to wake up. wash your face, eat breakfast, brush your teeth, take a bath. whatever the routine is, stick to it everyday so your brain is CONDITIONED to wake up once you start the routine. 2. open your curtains. the sunlight signals the brain to stop producing certian hormones that make you sleepy. in the same way, keeping the lights on at night while you're asleep will make it hard for your brain to "keep you asleep," so you end up sleepy and not well rested in the morning. so don't forget to switch off the lights at night. 3. don't drink coffee. hehe, i know, that may be hard. but if you constantly count on coffee to wake you up, you will ALWAYS find it hard to wake up if there's no coffee. 4. drink water. it improves circulation. increasing circulation to your brain will wake you up. water never makes anyone sleepy - you probably get sleepy when you drink water alone BECAUSE your body is crashing from all the coffee dependence. ;D 5. most importantly, observe sleep hygiene! switch off the tv and the lights before going to sleep. also have a nighttime routine. sleep at the same time every night if you can. avoid exercise right before sleeping. i hope these tips will help you. try to avoid the coffee - your body will thank you. ^_^

Water is good for the body so i will choose water better than coffee. If you take to much coffee it will be harmful to the body . Caffeine is the one that is not good, but in water it is fresh you will not be worried. Water you can get free, coffee you prepare and you have to spend money. Although some people buy water to drink, it is for their health benefit.
