Insomnia or just me?

Okay, I have completely lost it. I'm sick and tired of getting four hours of sleep a night... if I'm lucky, anyways. Now, I was told this was normal for my age, but I'm finding it a bit hard to believe.
Every night, I cannot seem to fall asleep until sometime after one in the morning. I keep having thoughts of my day, and remembering everything that's happened, and wondering what's going to happen... and too much more. And every time I try to fall asleep, I just can't. I'll lay awake most the night, still trying, but nothing. After a while I get really tired, and finally manage to salvage those final hours.
Even if this isn't insomnia, is there anything I can do to fall asleep? I keep waiting to talk to the doctor, but mom keeps rescheduling my appointments, and it's starting to frustrate me even more. Music won't work, because then I'm more focused on the music, and I found it much harder to sleep. Any help is appreciated.

I actually wrote an article on Associated Content that might help you. It is how food affects your sleep. It also has some recommendations for some foods to eat and avoid near bed time so that you are able to sleep. If you would like to check it out here is the link.

When my sleep gets muddled what I do is on a weekend stay up, not sleep at all say from the Friday to the Saturday and then have a light day and importantly not nap, at night I will be so tired and fall asleep immediately, this can only be done once in a while as otherwise it becomes counter-productive very important this does not work for everyone and must be done with care. This may not work for you, but you seem to be unable to relax or decompress from the day, this happens to everyone and it seems that the more I try to sleep the less I can, so I do something I enjoy just before bed I love playing games simple things to totally relax or reading or television show or a warm shower or exercise during the day which makes me tired, you just have to relax a bit before going to bed, find something that works for you.
Wishing you pleasant dreams.

I have had the same problem and now that i've started working out a lot
(with track) I'm simply tired anough to fall asleep quickly.
Before track my mom suggested for me to simply stay up until I was really tired and that worked too. I would watch a funny show or two on TV and soon I would forget about my day and all of the questions that normally go through my mind every night.
For a while i thought that it was just me, that for some reason my mind would just not turn off! But it turns out that it is more common then I thought and really there is no easy cure.
I know that with myself, the more I try to not think about things, the more i end up thinking about them!
Well good luck!
