Our Cat loves WIRES

Our lovely, adorable, satanic, witchy cat Lightening loves wires. Apparently she doesn't love her daddy's wires anymore now that we're married, she loves mine. I've gone through countless phone chargers, power plugs, a partial vaccume cleaner plug, and a host of other wires that she has eaten clean through. I've tried clove oil, plastic coverings, and tin foil. Does anyone else have any other ideas to try? I'm wondering if it's just her age and not being disciplined before I got here. She was 2 when I moved in, and is now almost 5! She's an imp. I won't even get into the jumping all over my counters, tables, etc. I'm just trying to save having to buy any more wires. Does anyone else's cat do this? Is there a reason they do it? Thanks in advance-Anora

I have never had that problem with my cats chewing wires. I know it might not be practical but you could try orange peel and place it among your wires. Just change it everyone in a while before it dries out and the cats should learn its a no go area.

It is the smell that puts them off. They don't like the citric acid contained within the peel. Some use it in their gardens to discourage cats. It might not work for your cats but mine hate it. So it is worth a try.

I'd say it's no discipline and other than pull her teeth out which obviously you're not, I'm not sure how she would take to firm discipline now???? Having asthma I am not allowed cats and I know nothing about them really. I'm just here for you my friend being of no help at all. I'd do well at WalMart wouldn't I???

It's the thought that counts right? I am thinking it's the no discipline too. Her daddy spoiled her before I came along!! Bachelor and all. Thanks for the response.

My cat loves wires and his older brother used to chew wires too. I use a spray bottle of water.... anytime he is doing bad behavior, jumping on counters, chewing wires, clawing furiture, I spray him in the face with the water a few times and tell him NO! It usually works. Try this, you can get the bottles at walmart and they work just fine! My cats don't do this stuff nearly as often....

I've got an extra spray bottle around here somewhere. I'll give that a try too. Her daddy didn't like the idea of water to the face, but I'm sure it won't hurt her right? Thanks again for responding.

The water won't hurt her, especially if you get room temperature tap water and just squirt her once maybe twice, just so that she stops the bad behavior. also, don't squirt her right in the eyes or ears or nose, maybe set it to a light spray, some of them can be adjusted. make sure that you clean out the bottle really good, you don't want to spray her even with diluted chemicals. My cats both changed their behaviors when I started this pretty soon. I think with in days I noticed less of the bad behavior. Good Luck.

Have you tried ever to buy a bunch of cheap wires and put them in a conor or something? That could distract her, and maybe keep her out of your important wires.

I had given that a thought but I didn't want to encourage her to chew wires. Though, if all else fails, this may be what we need to do. Thanks for your response.
