Are there any non-religious people who are pro-life?

My previous discussion was on the topic of abortion, and I noticed that one person who I was arguing with automatically assumed I was Christian because I am pro-life. She assumed right, I must admit, but I was just wondering if there are any people here (or perhaps any people that you know of) that are not religious but still do not believe in abortion? It seems to be that you do not have to be religious to be of the opinion that life begins before birth. In fact, it does not seem like religion NEEDS to factor into it at all. Yes, I know that the Church is actively pro-life, but are there not also scientific reasons or reasons of compassion to believe that unborn children should not be killed?
I don't know. Maybe I am completely off base and it is really only religious people who are pro-life, but it seems to be that it should not be that way. I don't think it is an issue that needs to be fundamentally religious in nature. I know there are some religious people who are pro-choice (although I am not sure how they justify that one), so why not vice versa?

I can see what you're saying. Most ppl associate prolife with religion b/c most times they do seem to go hand in hand but you can be prolife and not religious. I think it's wrong to kill anything...I'm just very compassionate and I believe that once something is living (it's heart is beating) then it has a right to be born and live. I happen to be religious and that is part of my outlook but even if I wasn't religious I still would be against abortion.
I did a discussion on abortion one time and I was stunned at the number of women who actually believe that the fetus is nothing more than a clump of blood until it's born...despite having a heartbeat.

I am not sure if believe in any religion. I studied Religious Education as my second subject at university and I am fascinated in different religions but they are for other people not me. I have taught in a Catholic School and in Church of England Schools. I am pro-life and believe that life begins at conception. I know what a baby looks like at different stages of pregnancy. I think that a baby is an innocent one and I view aborted babies as the missing people of the world. Who knows which great person was aborted they might have been as wonderful as Mozart, Shakespeare or Mother Theresa.

I know people who are not Christin but who are pro-life just for the simple reason that they believe life begins in the womb. I do think though that we see the pro-life more with Christians. I think this sort of goes along with many Christians being Republicans and not Democrats, just for reasons like abortion, gay marriage, ect.

well, i am catholic but i am not religious and i haven't been to church for a long long time but i am pro life. i think there are other factors that influence a person's stand. I think in my case, culture and environment are major factors. i grew up among people who are very pro life. my countrymen also place great value on family members, even the unborn ones so i guess this is the reason why i am still pro life despite being very liberal minded and westernized.
i wouldn't say though that religion is not a factor in my stand. after all, i did study for 15 years in catholic institutions and i live in a country where most people are catholics.
this is a very good question indeed. i wonder too if there are others who have cultures and environments that are clearly not influenced by religion who are pro life
