I was reading WOTD (Word Of The Day) on urbandictionary and came across this definition by bobmcd123. It reads,
lol theory:
The theory that the internet phrase lol, meaning "laugh out loud", can be placed at any part in any sentence and make said sentence lose all credibilty and seriousness
ex1
Doc: We need to operate on your colon lol, you have cancer.
ex3
Me: Will you marry me?Lol
^lol theory in action

I din't type the second example as it makes relegious references and I din't want it to be a controverial topic, although it's funny.
Do you use a lot of "lol" in your internet conversation?

No. I have never used 'lol'. If I want to indicate that I'm not entirely serious, or that I'm saying something in a humourous way I use '!'. Sometimes I find it a bit annoying that people use it so much when it seems to be there for no reason!

I try not to use "lol" when I am trying to be serious in a conversation.
But most of the time I end up using it, out of habit.. and having nothing else to say. Lol.
