Ever heard of the Blacle? I got a mail just now that says it all about Google's new search engine. Here's what is written: Hi All Google is the second Brain to many of us. We use it frequently. It uses a white screen which consumes high power. Read the following......... If Google had a black screen, taking in Account the huge number of page views, according to calculations, 750 mega watts/hour per year would be saved..!!!!!! In response, Google created a black version of its search engine, called Blackle, with the exact same functions as the white version, but obviously with lower energy consumption: Help spread the word and Save the energy? Please use http://www.blackle.com/ ------------------------------------------------------------- Well I of course knew nothing about this but like a good game I took a look. Its good OK but more than a few minutes sure hurt my eyes! I dont think I would think of the environment at the cost of my eyesight! What about you? Are you comfortable with black or dark screen colours? My screen colour is white, always. I've tried experimenting with other lighter shades too, but white was best.

Blacle....well I have never heard of it...Thanks for updating me about it Sudipta.Well any way since you say you have already taken a look and it hurt your eyes ,I am going to take your word for it and stay away from it.I too am not eager to save energy at the cost of my precious eye sight.Yes I am also comfortable with white background.I have sometimes looked into the profile of some friends in mylot and they have black and all sorts of weird colours which I do not fancy at all.....

I know, some have red, some have blue and some have deep pink…I could not really read much of what was written in the profiles…whew! Guess some people are blessed with good eyesight, that’s all!

hi, tried the 'new' site.. thanks for sharing it with us... but.. i agree with you.. the black background kinda 'hurts' my eyes, too.. maybe it will need a lot of getting used to.. white screen is 'easier' to read.. because we're just to used to it... not sure if i'll change to the dark screen just yet.. but i think i'll 'test' it a bit more...

This is news to me. Nopes, I haven't tried it. The only black site I know is Platinum Lounge, and I think it is attractive. :) Let me have a look at it, and then I will let you know whether it hurts my eyes. Cheers and happy Mylotting

I'd heard of it before, but never actually looked at it. I've just checked it out now though, and I have to say that I don't have a problem with it. After all, you don't look at the black page for that long as you navigate off it again to your search results pretty quickly. I think it's a good idea. Every little helps, as they say!

Yes, I know and its amazing how everyday colours we see around us, make so much of difference! I never knew of this and took a dekko. However, due to my poor eyesight, I really had to squint at the writings in white But I’m sure this would have its own following, while I would look for other avenues to save energy

I love blackle! It's my default browser :) It doesn't hurt my eyes at all. I think it helps my eyes relax more than a white screen. Since your environment has to be twice as bright as your computer screen, having a black browser actually helps your eyes :) Thanks for the response in my discussion!
