about braids

the other day I saw a black women wearing hair in braids on a bus. I know it is a common hairdo among black people. It's hard to see people wearing such hairdo here since I am in China. I was standing in back of that lady and watch her hair for a few minutes out of curiosity. I guess there might be hundreds of braids. I wondered how long a braids hairstyle takes in making it. anyone here wear that kind of hairdo? how often do you guys wearing braids shampoo? how long such a hairdo takes you for making it?

it takes many hours to do,
I don;t know how often it is washed because it depends on the individual
