Obama comes out against Fairness Doctrine

United States

A spokesman for President Obama came out and said "Obama opposes any move to bring back the so-called Fairness Doctrine". Well he may oppose it but democrats in the house and senate want it. So does that mean if they get passed that he will veto it? Pelosi wants it and we all know she thinks she is the "ruler" and not him. Will this be another issue that the two of them clash over? Tell me what you think.

Good to know our President will stand up for free speech. I highly doubt even the democrats who do want it will have enough support to pass it in the house, honestly, it's so blatantly unconstitutional.

Well will have to wait and see. I know Pelosi has been very vocal about wanting it.

Remember it takes 2/3 of congress to overturn a veto so if it does pass that mean all the dems and half the republicans would vote for it.

I hope so. That's all I can say. I'm happy that he's decided to say that he stands against it, I just hope that that is in fact what he ends up doing -- firmly standing against it.

Well Obama might be against the fairness doctrine but there are ways to limit free speech on radio. One way without using the fairness doctrine is to force radio stations to air more local program. True Rush might stay on air but others might get bounced from the air for some local program. To me the argument about the fairness doctrine is why do we even have an FCC. Why does the federal government have the power in the first place to regulate the press to begin with. Now onto the fight between Pelosi and Obama over this issue I do not think there will be a clash over this. Something will be sooner or later be said by someone on the radio, blown up out of portion, and will be the excuse Obama needs to change his mind.

Obama has been opposed to this for a long time, in fact I've never heard of anything but his opposition to it and it has nowhere near enough support to ever get passed. The last time it came up for a vote it got only 113 votes in the House. Annie

Be careful about what they are doing, and how much power they have now. Read the article below. I also saw an article yesterday that said Obama seems to be changing his position -- will post when I find the link again. http://wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=88603/?&
