My daughter has an old Imac computer to watch dvds on. It isn't hooked up to the internet, and she cannot watch tv on it. We have the V-chip activated on the tv. We monitor the programs she watches. If they have their own tv how do you monitor the programs they see?

My daughter has a DVD player in her room. I don't think I'd worry about her having a TV, but I've never bought her one. Perhaps she's going to complain to the Department of Family Services soon and get me forced to buy her one. :) You never know, kids today....

I don't have kids myself yet, but when I was a kid it felt like I was the only one in the world who wasn't allowed their own TV in their room! All my friends had one so you can see how I felt really deprived. I had my priorities straight!

right now no there isn't any televisions in m sister room. She needs one since my step dad takes over the television and he hates cartoons and the shows she likes so she has to literally argue to get to watch a show. When I was growing up there was no television most of the time or we weren't allowed to watch it. Nothing like television of today though used to be a fuzzy screen and it the antenna blew any you lost show..till it blew again.. She has a portable DVD player she gets to watch her movies on but she gets so bored watching the same ones over and over. My mom said something about buying her one for her birthday but that is still 4 months away she can't wait..

My son has a TV in his room. It's hooked up to satilite and he's got his DVD player in there. He seldom watches it, mainly there for the sound. He knows he's only allowed to watch Nickelodeon, Disney or Boomerang. When other kids come to play we put the remote up so they can't change his channel and get him in trouble.

My son did not get a TV in his room until he was 15, he used it for DVDs and video games. He is not in the Navy and up to the time he left, we never connected it to the cable.
I would not give a child under 14 or 15 a a tv in their rooms unless they were sick.

No my kids do not. I think it takes away from family time and interaction. They did have one in the toy room for video games or if they wanted to watch something different than we were but it was monitored as is the tv in the living room. Growing up, I had an old one in my room but only after I was in high school but did not have cable hook up.

Television is a common device of information technology available almost every where in the world. Internet and further are more facilities than TV. I think we have no need to monitor the children that what are they watching on TV. They should learn every thing. they should watch every thing. because time has been just changed and we could not hide any thing from the eye and ear of our today's children. so we should not worry about it and we should allow them to watch the TV freely in their rooms.

No, none of them do anymore. The oldest did for awhile, but it wasn't hooked up to cable, he only had it so he could play his video games. But due to his grades he got the TV and the video games ripped out of his room.

My son has a tv in his room. We keep the remote put away so he is only allowed to watch channels we turn on for him, which is mainly Sprout or Nickelodeon. He only watches a little before bed or maybe half hour after school. Most times if he watches tv its out in the family room with us, watching American Idol...lol
