Do you truley believe in ghosts or spirits?

As a child I lived in several different states, cities and houses. When we moved to Mauldin, SC we lived in our dream house. My sisters and I along with my parents were so excited to finally be buying a house and settling down in one spot. the first night we stayed there I started hearing noises but they didn't seem like they were coming from the house but from in my head. I remember telling my mom about hearing it and she said that sometimes when you go through puberty you hear things like your sleeping but your mind is still going. So I just went on about my business but continue hearing the sounds a few times every week. My sister was so scared to sleep in her own bed that she would climb up the bookshelf in her room and sleep on the top shelf all night. The bookshelf was built into the wall. I also remember my mom screaming in the middle of the night and my dad carrying her out to the couch to get her settled down. We stayed at the house for 8 years trying not to let it bother us and not letting it take over our home. Our final breaking point was when my father was woken to my mom being choked and fighting with... well nothing. That was our final stopping point. We were out of there in a week. It has never happened since then. My question is do you believe and if so have you ever had an experience and if so please share.
