Stopping the thieves

This is the funniest news story that I've heard in a long time. A man was in his cellar when he heard noises in his house. Looking under the cellar door, he could see the thieves packing up his tv, electronics, wife's jewelry, etc. So he escaped out of the back of his house, ran to the front only to find that the thieves had left the 'get away' car running with the keys in it. So the homeowner took it and called the police! Here is the link to the news report, I hope it opens correctly: http://gmy.news.yahoo.com/v/12107144
In these tough economic times, more and more people are becoming victims, I love hearing how average citizens are fighting back - sometimes in creative ways. Does anyone else have stories of everyday heros fighting back?

Yes that was a funny turn of events. The 911 operator did tell him to stop the van because he could be charged with stealing it. I am glad he outsmarted the thieves. I am sure that things will get much worse very soon. Thefts will go up at an alarming rate. I am not looking forward to it. I think that more people will be ready to protect their homes as well though.

Yeah, I heard about this on the news. I thought it was funny that all get out.
As for your link. It does not talk about this discussion. It talks about the Oscars. I am not sure if you grabbed the wrong link. Or it is one that cahnges daily. But wanted to let you know.

Hahaha...what a great story. I didn't read the link as it is 3am and I'm off to bed. I hope he drove the car to the nearest police station. What a great opportunity to get hios own back...so to speak. I wish I could think of a story...I'm sure I've heard one or two recently...just not thinking coherently at the moment. Nighty night.

When he called the police, they advised him to pull the vehicle over and wait for assistance, because it could have been reported as stolen too. At the end of the report it did say that no theft charges against the home owner had been filed...duh!

Hi Catdla, This gave me a giggle and I agree it is about time victims started getting their own back, well done for the guy taking the car and phoning the police but knowing our justcie system they would have probably arrested the man to TDA and as the thieves were in house and hadn't atually taken anything they would have got off. Crazy world we live in eh! Huggles. Ellie :D

hi catdla 1 I heard a police officer tell of this one, a man came into a home, and was busy putting all the silver ware and
jewelry into a bag as he thought the house was empy,so he
was taking his time when the only person home, a lady about 90 crept down the stairs, picked up a heavy antique vase, and whopped
the busy burglar over the head. He fell down like he had been
poleazed. so the small 90 year old grandma nonchalantly called the
police, and the officer who was talking to me was the one who
responded. the man was still out cold, and the old lady was sitting on the sofa and shaking like a leaf. wow what a gutsy old lady I thought.

He was very fortunate for catching those thieves on the act. We weren't too fortunate though. Just the other day, our boarders (since our old house was turned into a boarding house), informed us that when they arrived home that night, the padlocks to their doors were all broken. The thief successfully opened the doors while the third one was a failed attempt.
The theft was done during daytime as the suspect seemed aware that during those hours, nobody was around.
This is the second time that we been victims of stealing. One happened at our other house and this was the second.
This goes to show that we lacked and tend to overlook safety measures to guard our home.

That's exactly how I felt. It weirded me out thinking that someone else was inside our house, like, total invasion of privacy. If only the walls and doors can testify, I'd love to hear their piece.
