Have you heard of a reverse phone directory? There are sites on the internet where you can trace a person's name and address with just their phone number? What do you you think of such sites? Once upon a time only the police had such capabilities now it seems anyone can trace a name and address from a phone number? Do you think this is a good service or a bad service? The link to one such site is on my blog 'Websites to make you say "WOW"', check it out from my profile page and let me know what you think.

I don't think they should be allowed to disclose addresses of mobile phone subscribers other than to the police, or courts. I know you have to pay for this service but it leaves us wide open to would-be thieves, rapists, whatever and I really don't think it should be that way. After all, there's a lot of young kids with mobile phones. What if paedaphiles had access?
Brightest Blessings.

I agree with you darkwing, it seems to have been made far too easy for ANYONE to get access. There should be some restrictions, especially where children are concerned.

i think having such a site will make it easier to trace anybody that you have not seen. this will be a good service especially if there is an emergency situation.

I hope most people use this service for good reasons like the one you suggested. I am sure it must have many positive applications.

Oh yes I most certainly have. I have traced a name an address myself using this method.
It is very scary to know that a person could do that. Especially if you are hiding from an abusive spouse or from a stalker.
There are a lot of crazy people out there.

Yes, I thought it was really weird that anyone could get such information whenever they wanted to...liberalism gone wrong I think. Some argue that this service can be used for very positive ends and that's true, but it still sends shivers down my spine when I think of the more negative ways in which such a service could be used.

Hi imaginearea!
Here in Italy it is not a new thing to be able to do reverse checking. If you know a number and want to find out who it belongs to you can go to various websites here to find out. However, due to very strict and complicated privacy laws here, not all numbers are available. Cell phone numbers are very dificult to trace backwards because when signing up for a number most people declare they want it to be private. With land line numbers more people leave this option open.
Ah just in case you were wondering, mine are not available

This service is quite new to me, I only heard of it a couple of weeks ago. I don't think it is available in the Uk (although there is probably a uk website somewhere offering this service as we speak)...to my knowledge only the police can access such info in England. I did not know it was available in Italy. The sites I have seen on the net can even find the names and adresses of people who are unlisted....scary thought. I'm glad that for you in Italy it is very diffcult to get cell phone numbers and unlisted numbers. Who needs phone numbers and addresses anyway when we've got mylot. lol.
