do you think it is a turn off to people when you tell them you have bi polar disorder or not?

Well my sister is bipolar, not known the reason for her cause, but she takes med and now we always keep her occupied and surely the support of family and friends can help to recover, even mediation will help on this.. I pray all people with bipolar should get well, as i know how painful it is.

Yes sometimes, because its common human nature to accept anything said right on their face and not easy to accept their problems. So this will turn off surely.

The way I see it, if it's a turn off then their not worth your time. Before I met my fiance I told my ex boyfriend I had it, and soon after he broke up with me. I'm not sure if it was for that reason or not, but either way I still think that if they think it's a turn off it's not worth your time. My fiance knows that I am bipolar, and we have a great relationship.

hi patraicemery...it depends on the person. probably some people are. i personally wish i could do more to help those struggling with bp if only to encourage them and be a friend. i've talked with someone online who i found out later had bipolar. he really was a sweet guy yet had trouble with people because of the condition he had. he's just a teen in high school and can't afford to have medication. my heart goes out to him. i talked with another man online who also has BP and he was going thru a divorce. he was so lonely i felt for him and tried to encourage him. but he broke off the contact. i hope he's okay. and the sad thing is a friend of mine talks occasionally with robert who has BP and robert is divorced and barely surviving financially. it's so sad. as if life isn't hard enough and then have a condition that makes it harder.

Only the uneduction ignorant people that do get turned off or run in the opposite direction when you tell them you are Bi-Polar are not worth your time to get to know and build a relationship. I think you should tell them, just as I did, because if you don't and then start to build a relationship, if you were to have a High or Low or whatever and that person then finds out about it after you have fallen love or started to care about each deeply and then they run it hurt worse then it would if they run at the beginning!!
