What are your thoughts about cardio kick-boxing and tae-bo?

How do you feel about pop work-outs like cardio kick-boxing, tae bo, etc? I have tried a few and they definately got my heart pumping, but I was also surprised and disappointed that absolutely no time was spent on proper technique. I think these types of work-outs could potentially be a good supplement to martial arts training to help focus on aerobic and even anerobic exerises (when used for shorter, more intense sessions) and thus make one a more well-rounded fighter. However, without a basic foundation in martial arts and/or on going martial arts practice, it seems that such work-outs would only be good for the cardio and certainly do not seem to impart any actual self-defense as far as I can see.

I've tried Tae-bo, but I wasn't impressed. It was done too quickly, very little explanation, and it seemed to be ineffective in the area of martial arts. At least to me it did. I'm all for a good work out, but just doing a flurry of movements with no real purpose seems well, without purpose and a waste of energy. Maybe I'm looking at this wrong though.
