Ever loose 1/2 of something like half a pair of shoes, socks, etc?

Well, I finally did it. I lost one lense in my glasses. I had one that kept falling out. I would resecure it and be off for awhile. Yesterday, it fell out at a friend's house and we retraced our steps, could we find it, of course not! Luckily, I have spare glasses, but they're the previous prescription and my head has gotten bigger so not very comfortable. So what have you lost? Did you ever find it? What did you do with the other half if you didn't find it? Puppet socks are good when you loose one sock. Not sure about one shoe or about one lense in glasses except to donate to the Lion's club, maybe they can fin another or have someone grind it down and cut it to a kid's size of glass. Still hoping to find the other lense, still looking in my car, might be there. Thanks and take care

i'm always loosing one sock. especially when it comes to my babies socks. everyone in my house just always ends up wearing mismatched socks. every once in awhile we are lucky and find a pair that still matches.

There are these neat things that keep two socks together during washings now. They're little plastic circles with bendable triangles of plastic that catch two pairs of socks together. I did that for awhile and then I just put one sock inside another when I took them off. Now I have a pair when I go to wash them unless I loose both of them! Smile

The main thing that I always seem to lose one of is socks. What do I do with the other one? I usually keep it for a long time and when I finally never come across the match to it I just throw the other one away. I have no need for the sock then, so that is why I get rid of it.

I've done that and then found the other sock later. Maybe a sock collage for a headboard would be good! See the responder above you, she has an interesting theory. Actually, there were some interesting ones in response #5 and 7, too. Thanks and take care

I do this all the time. One of my ex assistants use to say that my socks got stolen by a sock gnome.Apparently there these little creatures who steal your socks and take them back to their hollow tree to make a nest out of them. I also lost one shoe once, I have no idea where it went or how it left the house. But I know I looked everywhere and it wasn't here.

The only way to find the missing lens is to throw away the rest of the glasses and the missing lens will immediately show up.

I lose socks. I think there must be another dimension in the dryer, that sucks in the other sock. Maybe someone on LOST island will wander around and come upon a bunch of socks and say "How did these get here?" I have never lost anything more. I mean it is hard to lose a shoe, and I have lost a whole thing, and then I found out that someone else borrowed it or it showed up eventually. But socks, you look silly wearing unmatched socks.

Socks, most people seem to loose socks. Great ideas though on how to prevent that, esp. the mismatching of them from a lost one. Responders # 5, 7, 9, 10, and 21 could help you to never loose a sock again. I hope you're loosing them in the washer and not the dryer. The dryer could present a fire hazard and burn your house down. I would be having a repair man there in a heartbeat if I lost anything in the dryer. Take care and stay safe.

I've never lost half a pair of shoes, as generally when I take off my shoes, they're put away or left together. Now socks! I've lost countless socks in the past and still do now, the easiest way around it for me is to buy 5 packs of the same colour socks so if I lose half a pair, I've still got 9 others LOL! Gosh I hope you find your lens from your glasses soon, that's quite an expensive item to have to replace as far as I know. Going back to your sentence above "...it fell out at a friend's house and we retraced our steps, could we find it..." erm were you wearing the glasses when the lens fell out? Cos, if so, did you not notice it not being there? x

Socks, they're a never-ending challenge that way! I've done what you're doing now and I also have done other things (read above) to try to keep them together until they're washed and they have these new things that even help you keep them together when they're being washed, but they don't dry very well unless you remove the plastic rings. We all keep trying and I hope we manage with theose socks soon. Thanks and take care

Hmm..have to throw some levity in here! LOST---half my life, my other half (as in husband)....but you know, in both instances...I KEPT the BETTER halfs! The better half of my life is yet to be lived, and the better half of the union, was me, and I kept that in tact! Socks...yup, always in washer & dryer...they are fondly known as PWP's in my home (parents without partners)! Owner a German Shepherd dog, once "Cola" and she stole and hid "one shoe, boot or slipper".....I think she knew I couldn't go anywhere without both! Found them all the day I moved, in the crawlspace under the house, but, alas, I had already thrown the other one's out! Here, in B.C. the Lion's Club do have a program for re-cycled perscription glasses, even with one lens...! Worst thing in the world is to lose your glasses...how do you look for them..without glasses? Have a great one, m'dear!

I'm not as blind as my Mother was yet. So I can look without them. I need them for serious distance like driving and not so serious like watching TV. But I can get pretty close to where I'm looking. Interesting all the things you've lost. Thanks and take care

Just what is it about socks!! I am always losing socks. I know ,when I put them into the washing machine there are two of each of them. But why when the wash is over, that I am missing some of them. There must be some kind of black hole in my machine or something. I think I will take your advice and make some sock puppets

Read 1 and 2 responses up top, maybe you'll feel better! Also there are plastic rings now that help keep socks together. I had a friend who asked a washer repair man and he said that small socks can actually get trapped inside a washer or make it all the way out of the washer. So you're not imagining it, some socks do leave the washing machine with the wash water. So if you can find a way to put them together and make them bigger like with the plastic rings they have now with little triangle flexible sock catchers, then maybe you'll keep more of them. Also the idea of #2 or 3 with buying 10 of the same socks is an idea. Together, we may be able to solve this constantly missing sock thing! Thanks and take care

I have soooo many single shoes and I don't think I own socks that have mate. lol. My solution is to buy only one brand of socks so that way I don't have too much trouble matching them. I have a few pairs of earrings that only have one of. Who knows where they've gone. With a 6 year old running around everywhere it's hard to tell where anything is!

Shoes, tie them together and put in a closet the 6 year old doesn't get into. Socks, we're still working on that. But responses at 5, 7, and 9 might be of help to you. I hope your child doesn't put things in his or her month and swallow because earrings are a chocking hazard. Thanks and take care

I got smart with socks and only buy the same ones. I have a dozen or so all the same so I cannot even tell if I have a half pair missing because I still have 23 of the same sock.

It is a known fact especially for people with children, that the washing machine eats socks and spits them back out at a later date..lol.. When my kids were young, I was always losing socks in the washer, so I thought. I kept a bag where I would throw odd socks and about once a month, I would empty it and match up pairs...Low and behold, there would be many!!!

This might sound crazy but I don't recall every losing a sock or lens from my glasses. I misplace things all the time but eventually find the item. If I lost a lens in my glasses, I would be walking into walls and wouldn't be able to drive myself anywhere. I have an extra pair but like you, they are an old prescription. I have worn contact lenses for 42 years and have never lost one. I've never broken a pair of glasses either. Guess I am just careful and pay close attention when it comes to my eyes because my vision is so poor. Your story is almost funny but I just can't force myself to laugh. Did you find the lens?

You must have a very tight washing machine (see #9 or 10 response) and glasses that are also. I can't wear contacts. I have dry eye and occular rosacea. The contacts would dry to my eye and have to be surgically removed. My glasses were wired together because the screw went missing and the screw repair kit none of the screws fit my glasses. No the lens hasn't been found yet, but I will look again today. Easier to do when you're not tired and not in a rush. Thanks and take care

i am always loosing socks. sometimes our daughters are only bringing one down to be washed and i swear that my washer or dryer eats socks. one thing i hate is that we have so many shoes and it takes forever to find the other shoe (we have a smallish bookcase in our shoe/coat closet and each person has a shelf but my daughters are famous for just chucking their shoes in and not putting them on their shelf!)

See responses 5 and 7. They maybe of help to you. I like the sock bucket idea, that may help you with your daughters. With an entire bucket full of socks, there should be some socks that mach. Shoes, when you finish wearing them, tie the shoelaces together. They'll stay together way better. Hope something I wrong and others wrote helps. Thanks and take care

My jewelry is not as organized as I would like it to be. So, I often end up misplacing 1 earring. That can get pretty annoying, especially when it's a pair I really like. I have even thrown an earring out, only to find it's matching one months later! So, I don't throw them out anymore, I just try to save it back and when the other one turns up, I've got another pair of earrings! I like your idea about making puppets out of single socks. Take care.

Velvet cloth, cut a hole in it in the middle. Put the cloth over the coat hanger by putting the hook part through the hole. When you wear your earrings, if they're pieced, they go into that well. Now if you have a tendancy to get infections, sterile cloth can be used instead. If they aren't pierced, it's harder to keep them, they can fall off even if you put them on this. Then the cloth works best for pins, broaches, etc. Just a thought. Take care

I think my washer or my dryer eats socks, so I have a bunch of socks that I cannot find matches for. Also, I have managed to lose one of my bedroom slippers. I have no clue what happened to the other one, but I can't find it anywhere. I thought my dogs may have had something to do with the disappearance of my slipper, but I have looked everywhere they usually stash things, and it is nowhere to be found. I have looked everywhere I can think of, and that slipper is NOT in this house as far as I can tell. I have no clue what happened to it...
