On a cold winters night, there is nothing like a good hot pot to warm you up. There are restaurants which specialize in hot pot. Hot pot is a cook your own style of food. You are given a charcoal fire, usually one per table but sometimes, one per person. You then order meats and vegies which come raw. You dip them in the boiling water of your hot pot to cook. You use one set of chopsticks to put the raw materials in and another to pull them out. You dip the cooked goods in soy sauce and chili if you like. In the end you are left with a nice hot soup. soy sauces cater for various flavour, like sea food sauces, spicy sauces, garlic sauces and so on.

My goodness! You just made me miss Singapore again! I've had my last taste of it almost 20 yrs ago. They call it steamboat. I was then a househelp in that very clean country with its well-disciplined citizens and although I really miss steamboat so much i can't say it was my favorite then because i just loved all the various flavors of Chinese, Indian, Malaysian food. I was even mistaken for a Malay not only because I look like one but because I kept asking for more chili. I haven't forgotten the taste of Singaporean food. Just a few months ago i dreamed that i was in Singapore again...eating!
By the way, i'm a soup person. It's like an appetite booster for me, the hotter the better! Thanks friend tudors, for a mouth watering topic!

Oh yes, I really love the Chinese hot pot! I love that we all get to spend some time on talking while things are boiling and I think the food is just so fresh! On a cold night, it helps to keep us warm! I love having it with friends!

You decribe the detail of the hot pot, but I disagree with something what you said. Not only on cold winters, but also in hot summers, there are very many people would love to eat hot pot. Chongqing's hot pot is famous in the world. Fortunately, my university is in Chongqing, China. So I have many chances to eat the real hot pot. I would like to eat hot pot. I love Chongqing also.
