Referrals

I have absolutely no referrals on any sites that I am a part of. this makes my earnings go extremely slow. what was the best way that you found to find referrals. i put my websites up but now one ever uses my links. i have to buy referrals for sites like neobux and i'm not sure that i am actually making anything since i am paying for the extra hits. any suggestions?

I have looked up alot of info and any posts I can find on referrals here and other sites as well... I am thinking the only way I am going to make money is to do the work myself. It isnt that I dont want referrals but as others have said, you can get referrals but if they dont do anything, then you are still not making any thing off of them.
So I am going to keep looking and see what else I can find, but mostly I got to my sites everyday...well I have about 3 or 4 of them I go to everyday and do my work and see what I will get on my own...if I eventually get to a point that I build up some referrals and earn some off that --I will be extremely happy, but this is all new to me and I am happy making what little I can right now.
