I was never a cheerleader, but I do think it counts as a sport. Not one that will ever be put into the olympics or anything. But they have some pretty high level competitions that are national. I also read an article recently that said a lot of sport related injuries come from the cheerleading section. Anything that physical I think should be considered a sport. It is like gymnastics in a way with a touch of dance.

Because this is for a school project then I am going to respond by asking questions that might help you.
Do you have to practice? If so is the time required comparable to other sports?
Are there competitions? Can you get college scholarships for it?
Does it require an athletic ability?
This is just a start but it might get you going. hope it helps

I have never done cheerleading but I absolutely think it is a sport. It requires lots of physical activity, you have to practice to get good at it. You can do it professionally, you can win and compete. I think it is very much a sport!
