Honestly I dont get it? what is the whole point of chain letters/email. What do people get out of it? who would spend hours writing chain letters and why do they do it? Sure if its a funny picture or a joke I get it but 99% are not. My sons ex playgroup teacher used to send them to me every day. I HATE THEM. I dont care what they say inside I dont read them. I open and as soon as I smell a chain letter I delite them. I do not send them to other people. Do you?

I totaly agree with you. My girlfriend also has even a better point. Why do people create viruses? They have nothing better to do then to create trhese viruse that destroys people's expensive computers. What do they get. A laugh that something they created can destroy someone's equipment? I just don't get it. The internet is such a wonderful thing but there are these black clouds that destroy people's enjoyment of it.

Also they create them to get to your information.

I think a lot of students create viruses to showcase their programming skills and I would dare say they put it on their C.V for employers to be WoWed by. But for us the humble virus will always be a pain and pointless.

I have never seen the point of chain letters either. I would never even bother with them. They are more alive these days then ever. Even comments on the likes of you tube saying "if you don’t post this to another ten people" this or that will happen. What amazes me is how many people get caught up in it all. I think people who send them on are even worse than the ones creating them. That is weird for the play group teacher to be sending them to you, as a teacher you think they would know better. You should have put in your post "if you don't reply to this discussion, something bad will happen!"

Well I dont send them to other people and you will be shocked to know but nothing bad has happened to me. My husband has not left me, I have not broken any part of my body or been harmed in any way shape or form, my house is still standing up nice and strong. So there we go. Yes the teacher used to send at least 5 a day I told her she was abusing my privacy and the e-mail given to her was for profesional use not private. She still sends them

There are actually websites for more of the fun chain letters and I know I used to peruse those sites and find some to send out. I guess for more that are concerning getting money out of someone, it's a person or people who just want money for whatever reason. It's sad when you come across these becauses 99.9% of them are scam, but that 1% you never know and most often delete.

lol I'm sorry I didn't say what I think the point of them are, I guess other then for money, then for amusement. I am not sure if all the original senders get the things from websites or just what but I guess it would depend on what the context of the chain letter is. Have you ever watched Sabrina the Teenaged witch? There was an episode where the two aunts were cursed because one did not send on a chain letter. It was really a set of chains, lol, and ofcourse were supposed to be sent through the toaster.

Sabrina was so long ago that even if I watched it I dont remember. Well ok for the scams but things like if you dont send it to 1 million people in the next 10 sec what do people get out of those

The chain letters that I find nowadays are those that try to hit the greed button on people, which are plainly scam mails like you've won 5 hundred million Euro, Pounds, USD, bla bla bla. They'll normally ask for your personal details & all. Now they even have the audacity to even use in the name of the Lord, they're pastor / reverend so & so in need of bla bla bla or they have a good business proposition, etc. Such rubbish, I just spam them all when I receive these kinds of mail

There are so many I consider chain letter. The "you inherited", "we need your help", the "you won", "paypal, your bank, tax office needs your info", the good look once, the prayer, the "each time this is send gets 10 cents", the fake warnings. There are so many.

Sending out chain letters is a good way in promoting something you want others to see. Even though most of the time the content is really garbage, the point is, the receiver had read through it. They knew what's inside the letter. But then, some of it may contain something useful and relevant. I personally am not fond of reading these emails. But whenever I want to relax and don't want to think of anything else, these emails can be quite amusing. ^_^ I only send out emails that really makes me laugh and/or has useful contents.

Oh dear I have never found a chain letter that relaxed me I simply dont have time to read 50 or so that I used to get every day

I partyl agree with it. sometimes these chain mails can do wonders. I had received a mail from a friend of mine asking to Help the parents of a 10 year old child who needed 15 Lacs for his Cardiac Operation and believe me people paid their heart out. Ofcourse after all due deligence to make sure its genuine. Sometimes they do help, but yes, most often they are irritating and sick messages or pics. I do have a look at these mails, only during free time.

you will find that chain mail like that is clasical scam. The police and everyone tells you not to do it because people know that when kids are in question people will pay and the money ends up in some idiots pocket.

That's a good question! I really don't see the point in them either. All they really seem to do is freak out the people who actually believe in them. I always just delete or ignore them. It seems like a waste of time for whoever types them up in the first place, and also for the people who take the time to read them and figure out who to send them to. I never pass them on, cause I know how much they annoy me, so I don't want to do the same to someone else!

I don't totally discredit these types of mails because sometimes they're just sent for information purposes, specifically those with health contents. Well, most of them are garbage though and I consider those just a waste of time and space. BUt those from friends, I read them and pass them on.

I don't get the point of those chain letters and emails either.. what those things are for? what irritates me the most is the content of the letter, sometimes it tells you "if you're not going to send this to 10 people then you're going to die", what the heck?! Why would i believe on those made up stories by chain letter creators?!!! they are sick.. they shouldn't waste their time doing unnecessary stuffs like that.. instead of making scary letters, try making inspirational quotes for the readers!!!

I feel the same way. I can't stand it when someone sends me one of those useless things. I have no idea who starts them or why for that matter, I just know that like you, when I get them, I delete them without bother to read what's in them. I have even let my friends know not to send them to me because at one point I was recieving so many of them that I just deleted all the messages from those people just so I wouldn't have to sort through them all. I never send them to anyone becuase I know that I hate them and I bet that there are a lot of other people out there that feel the same way.

I don't get it and I absolutely have no idea why some people do it. It really annoys me whenever I receive those and telling me if I don't send them to the certain amount of people, my life would be a hell. They thought they could fool me but they're wrong. So, I always delete them after reading.
