I didn't really bothered about the notification being turned on or off until someone brought it up just lately that I turned on all my friends' notification. Well, ever since I've got loads of "So & So started a new discussion" notifications. Then I only noticed that some people start so many discussions in a day? Wow!~ I wouldn't mind but sad to say sometimes there's too many discussion that there are so few quality ones? Not to mention duplicate ones, just that many are worded now differently. I think I mighgt just turn off all the notifications & just go back to my normal "friends started" method? Hmm...what do you guys think? Ever feel like "yucks"? Please I don't mean to discredit nor dishonour anyone but this is sometimes honestly how I feel

Hello zweeb82! I noticed that too. But all what I do is that I just turn on the notifications of my friends who are always responding to my discussions. What I mean is that those friends who are close to me here. That's why it's easy for me to find this discussions of yours because I received a notifications from mylot. I don't turn on the notifications of everbody who's on my list because I know based on the number of my friends there, I won't receive some notifications and I wouldn't want to miss my close friends discussion

True, that's wisdom. I'm on a trial run now so I guess I'll start to turn off the notifications of some, hahaRest assured, yours will not but turned off, hahaI need to interact with intelligent people & the way the way they start discussions tells me a lot whether which category they're in, muahahahah

I am still learning things around here at mylot, still under the 2 month mark here, but I dont really know about the notifications, but I do see alot of duplicate or worded different discussions, I will think of one and then next thing I know someone started one real similar, which is totally fine with me...I usually will answer in the first 2 that I see, but then after that stop. I think people dont go back and look or search to see if a discussion/subject has been discussed or created ....not sure. I just go into the "friends started" and "my interest", and post from there and I am pretty happy with that one....happy mylotting.

Yeah, I used to do the same in regards to the responding part until I find the myLot notifications on so & so has started such & such mails flooding my inbox. Wow, was just responding to my other discussion which I started. Under 2 months & your already at 750. Hope you can reach your 1000th milestone before the 2 months is up? That's something worth shouting, I mean as a personal achievementw00t[/em]

I have them all 'on'. I get a lot of notifiers and I open them all but some users are busy on certain days when others are not so there are never too many to get through. I open them up one by one and open up the discussion too if I'm interested in it otherwise I just delete it and move on to the next one. I would be lost if I set them to 'off'

There are some days when there are a lot but you gradually get used to it - then you start to worry on the other days when there are only a few

Yup, and I'd be OFF if I answer themm all!~ HahaSo like I did mention I'm on a trial run & the sudden flooding of the inbox which is really what I rreally need to get used to. So I guess I won't be turning all them notifications off, but only answering to the ones that interest me

I do understand how you feel but I have an alternative point of view on the notifications on/off tab...I like keeping my on. I only discovered this feature about 3 days ago and because I have many friends each time I go to my email there are over 50 emails from my mylot friends. Yes, some discussions are better than others but I am not compelled to answer any that I don't want to answer...I read what the discussion is about and if I am not interested in it I delete it, if I am interested I repsond to it. I like the notifications tab to be on, because this way I am able to keep in contact with the people I have made my friends, and do them the favour of responding to their discussions in the hope that my comments are making some money for them. If the notifications tab was off, I would not be able to track my friends discussions as easily.

Very true on the keeping in contact part as it would be easier to track them with the notifications on like you said. I guess it's a matter of me getting used to it, haha

Yup, it amazes me that some can always start a string of interesting discussions & yeah I agree - the crappy ones don't stay long, haha

Well, that's the best way to go if you don't intend your email to get flooded, well, in this case - SPAM! Ahaha

Oh yes I do. Some discussions are just not worth it to respond at all because of the silly things that is written. Won't mention what and who here...don't want to start a riot. So I for me, I just stick to my favourites like topics on cooking, cleaning, music, reading, books.......

HahaYes, we wouldn't want to stir up any storm or riot, ahahI guess the cooking section is fine? As for the IT section it's so monotonous - Intel vs. AMD, which Antivirus, what anti-spyware? So NOT creative

Well i do have some notifications on but i never put the friends notification on. That was ages ago forgot there even was a friends notification. I only put the friend request notification on thought the other one would be too much. Though if i did have that friends discussion notification i would consider deleting some friends. I would only turn that notification on only if i was on mylot a lot then it would be easier finding discussions than searching for them.

That does make perfect sense, if not you'll be having tons of emails flooding your mail box everyday & it would be worse than your normal spam, hahaI do have the friends notification on as well, so that's double the mails actually? Haha

I have been on here for almost 2 months and I couldn't agree with you more. I finally turned off my notifications because they were filling up my email. I still check which of my friends have started their own discussions and I try to respond with quality answers however if I find that they are one liners, I usually try not to bother responding. My theory is this, if you aren't willing to start a quality discussion, then I am not willing to waste my time writting a quality response. I hope that in the furture people here on mylot will start taking more care in the discussions that they start. I hope that more people take the time to respond with quality responses as well because I can't stand getting one line responses for a discussions that I have started. I put a lot of time and effort into my writing so to have someone answer it just to make a response to get cash, really gets my temp up. I hope that you have a wonderful day and happy mylotting.

Yeah, I understand when you say one liners. If it's like a friend & they do that once in a while it's OK. But if it's a habit, then very obviously they're just in for the cash. I mean yes, we're here for the cash as well, but then again, at least give credit to the person who has started a discussion or has taken the effort to respond to a discussion. Personally, I do feel that "the always one-liners" are pretty lame - they might think that it's pretty, but lame is the part that fits. HahaSo I guess going to the "Friends Started" tab under discussion would still be the safest then. At least your temperature doesn't have to go up, hahaThanks for your response, appreciate it!~

I'm actually still unsure about mylot. I just put a avatar up today finally. I think you get paid more for the quality of your posts more on the quantity. Yeah you get paid for the posts you make but sometimes its not very much. I believe if you post one liners you get like one cent. and if you post quality messages you get a few more cents for one message. thats at least what i've noticed on my account.

I've never bothered to try to figure everything out but based on the questions I've asked & the discussions I've read through & if I'm not mistaken, we don't actually get anything for starting a discussion but only when someone responds to them. As for if the post is long or short I'm not really sure too. But 1 thing I can tell you it's really quite a cool place to make friends & hang outHappy myLotting!~
