I am in total disagree with this. Her in India some of the universities have posed a rule that the students should not use mobiles in the college campus and in hostels.I am disappointed with this rule.I am studying by staying in hostel and I have to communicate with my parents . For that mobile is the easiest way but they are not allowing. What to do?

I entirely agree with you, that cell phones should not be banned in colleges as well as schools. The main reason why the cell phones are banned in colleges in India are, most of the College as well as school heads will be in the age group of 45 to 50 years, and when they were young they were bought up on very asture conditions, where the pastime they would have had is listening to half an hour of film songs once a week in the radio. For some they would not even have had electricity in their houses, it is these kind of people who are against mordern gadgets in every day life.

Banning of mobiles should only be imposed in schools.Once you enter into a college, you are mature enough to understand the limits. So even i am against this idea. They should only ban you from using mobile if you use it for some dirty cause.!

For me that's not right! Cellphones for students may become useless when they need it. What happens if the parents really need to contact their child? But I guess use of cellphones in classrooms are prevalent before and students may have abused using it that's why they banned phones in classrooms. If I am to suggest, they could just let the students put their cellphones on a common place in the classroom before class starts to avoid text messaging while classes is going on. In this way the students can still be contacted while in class.

In the class room no or where someone else is trying to study, that is wrong. But in the hostel or on the campus then I cannot see a problem with it,not unless they are going off all the time and noone can get any peace. If you are in your own room then whats the problem you need to ring home and they need to ring you.It does seem unfair maybe someone could have a word with the Head teacher or Dean and explain you need to talk to your parents as you are a long way away and get homesick, see what they say, maybe they may allow you,If you are in your room who will know if you are ringing anyone or not, unless you tell them yourself.

I don't agree with banning phones completely as in some cases, they do offer safety for children. But I do think that there should be certain rules about using them more discreetly. For example, it should be imposed that cell phones must be on 'silent' at all times when in the building, and that calls and texts can only be made out of lesson times. This way perhaps any disruption being caused by cell phone use can be minimised

Cell Phones should be banned in all schools. So many young kids and adults have cell phones these days with the capbility of texting. Schools probably beleive you are trying to look for answers since you didnt study for a test or quiz or whatever it may be by texting someone. Schools should allow cell phones before aand after school only for emergencies. IF it is an emergency then they do neeed to go to the front office and talk to them about it and use there phonet o call a parent or whatever it may be.
