Is packaged food good for health

When health is of concern, eating food grown under natural conditions is preferred. Unless you grow your own food like a farmer, there is no way to know whether the packaged food has been grown naturally or not as because even the farmer eats his food grown by use of fertilisers and pesticides harmful for human beings. I feel cheated every time i buy a packet claiming the contents are natural and wholesome food. Do you feel the same or any different?

Hello,Vicky! Packaged or the processed foods are in noway better than the freshly cooked balanced food as these not only slows down the body's metabolic rate but also make one feel tired and lethargic. For example white bread is made of wheat flour from which bran has been removed. This means that it has a low nutritional value and is also low in dietary fiber. When digesting white bread your body burns very low calories. It also causes your blood sugar level to rise.More over in the packaged foods artificial flavor, color and preservatives are used which may cause some lifestyle diseases like diabetes, blood pressure and obesity.thanx.

Packaged foods are usually full of salt, sugar and refined flour, as well as probably having preservatives in it. Even bread has a bunch of chemicals in it. What is bread? Wheat flour, water, yeast, a bit of sugar and maybe something extra like oil, and maybe molasses or sunflower seeds for an extra taste boost. Here is what is on the package of bread I am presently eating: Whole wheat flour, water, sugar/glucose-fructose, *yeast, vegetable oil (canola or soybean), salt, malt syrup, wheat gluten, corn starch, calcium suphate, ammonium chloride, sodium stearoyl-lactylate, calcium proprionate, acetylated tartaric acid esters of mono and diglycerides, calcium carbonate, monoglycerides. I have just finished watching part of a program on CBC about the chemicals in our environment. There are chemicals probably leeching out of the plastic bag into the bread too. I do not know what to do about it. Apparently all the pseudo female hormones are making men's sperm counts plummet and shrinking their organs. In one area near a chemical plant there are multiple miscarriages and the girls born outnumber the boys born by 2:1 , the boys are dying in the womb.

You are very right Vicky-packaged food has high chances of killing us tomorrow, you are very aware of the recent case of melamine in the Chinese milk. Am glad the Chinese government dealt with the culprits harshly-but I will always be suspicious of any packed food. Infact even bottled drinks worry me because every preservative they use in the packages have some dangerous ingredients.

There's not a lot you can do, as what you say, unless you're a farmer and grow your own food. Which is kinda hard these days, not a lot of people can do that. You just need to wash your food before stocking them or buy something to clean it. I think there was a book published on being green, and it was something mixed with baking soda and you use that to clean your food before storing them. It's natural and cleans it at the same time. No added harmful chemicals.

Nice topic vickyhill, but i think that buying packet foods are not good for health if taken on a daily basis. They contain preservatives, artificial coloring, no nutritional value, too much oil or fat, too much salt or sugar. But it is still peoples decision if they buy packed foods or junk foods. About the fertilizer thing, well veggies and fruits are sprayed by that too but we as consumers must be washing them first before eating right. Organic foods even they are healthy must be consumed by people carefully by washing it very well before cooking it.

In this so called modern world,is there anything, including the food, not contaminated by chemicals, pesticides or other man made …… It has been confirmed that even the species living in Antarctic have been the bearers of pollution. So As a ordinary what can we do is opening our eyes when buying, washing trying our best……to some extent, human are growed up eating hormone, the reason for people' growing height. However just dont be worried too much, maybe it is just the way of human evolution..

I try to avoid things with wrappers if I can. Your right that you can't really know what's inside, or what quality is inside. It's best to buy organic produce and meats if you can, and also to try to buy things grown in your area. The less they travel, the fresher they are and therefore more nutritious. Unfortunately, most packaged food is really junk food, sometimes with "healthy" and "natural" written all over it, which is ridiculous if you analyzed what it is. If you can, buy the dry ingredients from sources you trust, things like flour, oats, rice ect. If you take the time to make your own foods in place of a packaged product, it will be a much healthier option and may save you quite a bit of money depending on what you are making. One thing I am pretty sure about is if you eat oatmeal instead of a packaged cereal, its OK if want to put a little bit of sugar on top, because you have still reduced your sugar intake by spoonfuls over the average sweetened dry cereal. You stay fuller longer too.

Hi, U r right! In case of packed Junk food, most of the times 'saturated fats' are used, which release toxins during digestion.Paked food also contains lots of coloring material & preservatives, which are carcinogenic. In the Longterm, packed food will fasten aging. =Lahiri,Kolkata, india.

I agree with everyone else so far, packaged, processed food is not good for you, most to the stuff that we eat is 100% organic, and i also buy local foods for the freshness, I also have a garden every year for our vegetables, They are getting so expensive anymore. I also have a herb garden that i grow inside so i have fresh herbs year round. We have been thinking about getting a small greenhouse so we can grow are own vegetables year round and that way we know what we are eating. I also try to buy all my dairy products and eggs locally that way they are fresh and not processed in any way, where i live their are a lot of milk cows, and it is very easy to get fresh milk, their are also sources to get barn yard eggs,(ones that are not processed). My belief is that the fresher the better, and the less processed the better........

It's of no doubt, all the packaged items are harmful to our health.Though the manufacturers may say, that their food product is 100% good for our health, it is not the case. The silver foil, used for packing most of the food items are the main source for harmness. Then nest thing is, the prolonged storage of the food items leads to food poisioning. Most of the manufactures ae not mentioning the correct expiry date of the product but they are mentioning a fake one. Most of them can not kept more than 30 -40 days and if we see thier pack, that will be entirely different.Aslo the taste is will change day by day.i ma always against packaged food items.

Of course I feel cheated, have you seen the ingredients of these foods? are praticaly chemicals in a package, very unhealthy. And the taste, lets never compare the taste of the real food, home made and all.
