Fairness Doctrine an excuse to remove Christians from the radio airwaves?

I heard that the Democratically run Congress wishes to reintroduce the Fairness Doctrine that would require that every broadcast or internet site that has one point of view would have to a dissenting view on as well. Now there is a lot of complaint that it would be used against opponents to the present administration, and especially one such person whom I need not mention. However it could also be used to quiet the Christian airwaves, that is the Christian broadcasting stations, internet sites, and such.
I am sure that if the Muslims learned that they were being threatened, that they would be out in full force and if the Fairness Doctrine went through that there would be an exception. However many Christians are so nice and turn the other cheek, and it seems to be the in thing for people to say that they hate Christians or rather those who stand against abortion, homosexuality, etc.
Now in Canada, our religious radio and tv stations are namby pamby, because we have to present all views.
Now for some, the Christian radio and Tv stations are the first way they learn of Christianity and if that is silent, they have no other way to know since they do not now about Church buildings.
Now before you say, "this will never happen," I always say think of the worse that can possibly happen before it will, because if you will not, it will and no one will do much about it.
Here is a link that you can sign to protest against the so called Fairness Doctrine.

By the way, I already believe that the silence is already taking place because I have been trying to get this petition signed and so far it has been blocked on transit.

This fairness doctrine thing sounds like it violates freedom of speech to me. If someone has an opinion they want to talk about, let them do it. If someone else disagrees with that opinion, and wants to talk about it, it is up to them to do so. They shouldn't just stop people from airing their own opinion.
Still I am pretty sure most christians are two-faced phonies. They are super nice when they think it will benefit them but they are mean and petty when it serves them.
If they know they are being observed they present one face, but in private they are whole different person.
Just my opinion. For now I am free to give it and you are free to dispute it. For now.

Those people aren't Christians, fastcat, they are hypocritical pretenders. They just want people to think they are Christians. I hope you meet some real ones that take their religion to heart, you will see the difference.

OK I agree you should judgment each person individually instead of as a group. I also hope that I meet some non-phonies.
Usually I find the people that tell you what a good christian they are turn out to be the biggest phonies. If I am not mistaken, grandstanding about what a great christian you are is actually not what the jesus supposedly preached.

Oh I really hate hypocrites and I hate evil. Most true Christians do. What the fairness doctrine (which you do not have now) will mean that if for instance, there is a program preaching on the reality of sin, then there has to be someone on the program who says there is no such thing and if that person is like you know, gn-- and that preacher who says that sin is real is maybe not as educated, he does not stand a chance.
The trouble is that Christian radio stations or religious broadcasts are the only places on the airwaves that Christians can put their views across.
You all who hate Christians you have all your messages on most of the Media including the newspapers. So do you really want to silence Christians on the air and also encourage persecution?

The government needs to stay out of stuff like this. If they keep going after things like this it seems more and more like communism. I can understand going after raunchy programming or things like that but to tell a radio station what programs they can broadcast is nuts. I hear Bill Clinton agree with it though, he said it wasn't tight for people to be on the radio talking against the democrats. Why don't the democrats just start their own radio program?

I did read that Obama did not think the Fairness Doctrine went far enough and that is why he did not like it. I do not want the States to be up like here in Canada.

They tried but it failed because they couldn't get listeners and so couldn't get sponsors. It was called Air America. Now they want to force other talk shows to share the airwaves with them.

I rarely listen to anything other than Christian radio. I think our local Christian radio station would prefer to not broadcast rather than allow the name of Jesus Christ be compromised by giving glory to another god. I can tell you I would probably choose to only listen to my Christian CD's instead of the radio if that happens. It will be a real shame if this thing goes through, but it will not destroy the Christian community. Certainly, if you are a Christian, you know what to be praying for right now.

We have to pray that Obama and the Congress does not hinder the word of God getting through. Often Christian radio and Tv plus the internet is the only way that many non Christians get to hear God's message and about Jesus Christ our LORD and Savior.

I think such interferences on matters of faith would be very un American and Obama shoould be handy to veto any such unrealistic peices of legislation.

We have a hard time getting programs like that in Canada. It seem our CRTC is too politically correct to permit anything other then what they want. There was a program by that judge who was very strict about morals, etc. but they would not let the radios here air it. I have to search through the internet and see if there are videos or audios there. I just hope they do not censor Youtube, or we would be in trouble.

I signed the petition, and was happy to. That is the problem. People ignore the warning signs about these issues until the worst happens. Then they say they did not know about it. Why should a Christian radio station who pays for their show have to present the opposite side? Are atheist going to do that, too?

I doubt it. Because they do not mention God except in a negative way, they will be able to do and say what they want.

Thank you for posting this. Hopefully coming from somebody from a country with this in place and he results, will help. I am strongly against this. I don't quite understand how they keep putting conditions on our God-Given Rights. I have already signed a petition for this.

The FD was originally given credence by a Supreme Court case in 1969, Red Lion Broadcasting Co., Inc. v. FCC. The Red Lion station had a "Christian Crusade" and during the course of that program an author by the name of Fred J. Cook was singled out and criticized. The station refused to let him rebut their views and the FD was enforced till Reagan got rid of it in the 80's. So yes, I'm sure it will be used to silence Christian Radio and TV as well as any programs that criticize the current administration. I hear the President Obama does not agree with bringing back the FD and I hope that's true.
Fred Cook, incidentally, wrote "Goldwater: Extremist on the Right". After his case was concluded the Court unfortunately found the the FD was constitutional in a unanimous vote. Pretty scary, isn't it? Because it definitely violates our first amendment rights!

First of all, let me guess that you are not a muslem, but a christian, right? Second of all, Jesus turned the other cheek, not his followers. How can you say Christians turn the other cheek and then in the same sentence, bring up how they protest abortion and homosexuality? To say that these programs are the only resources for some to learn about Christianity is ridiculous. As I recall there is this Awesome Book out there where the whole story came from. Or the twisted, edited versions we here today. Aren't you afraid of these programs replacing the Bible? I don't know about in Canada, but, in the US, a long forgotten fact is those air waves are supposed to be free. They have since been taken over by ClearChannel and similiar corporations. It's brainwashing and it's only fair to allow the other side to send their brainwashing messages out there too. It's not Christians or Muslims that are to blame. An extremist is never good for any society. Sure, there are good Christians who mind there own business and don't care what others do in their own bedrooms, but there are muslims who do the same. We are all people.

Now you know how evil is spread. People who keep silent and do not say a word because they are 'nice' or ineffective Christians. So if you are robbing a house or stealing a candy bar from a store, I am supposed to not say a word because you may be poor and need the money, or you are diabetic and need the sugar.
Forget it.

Actually the Fairness Doctrine will be used to silence the true Christians. The leaders in the Congress and the liberal Democrats want it back because they want to silence all opposition to their views. Sounds a bit like what Communism is. .
