Do you have a staircase in your house? are you comforatble with it? Is there a staircase leading to your terrace too?
Presently the house where I live has a staircase leading to master and few more bedrooms. So we have to climb it several times a day. This morning when I was hurriedly climbing up I missed one step and hurt my right leg. Now when its hurting a little, I feel such houses are not very practical and convenient. lol.
I wonder how many of you are living in similar type of house. Do you like climbing and descending every now and then? Have you broken things or got hurt while using it?

Yes, we have a staircase at the moment, and I don't like it. I've tripped on it a few times, my kids have tripped or fallen all the way down it once or twice. It's a safety hazard. When I was pregnant or when one of my kids was newborn I had horrible visions of falling down the stairs and hurting the baby. Luckily that didn't happen, although I once did trip carrying a baby up the stairs, baby did not get hurt though.
Within the past few weeks my 2 youngest boys have fallen down the stairs, the toddler only fell a couple steps and was okay, the baby fell quite a few more steps, but was still okay.
Thankfully when we move in about a week we'll be moving into a mobile home that has no steps (except leading up to the house). I am so looking forward to that.

You too. Oh they are risky. I agree. Tripping with the baby sounds scary. Your boys are okay. That's so good!! So nice that there won't be any steps in your new mobile home. Sounds pretty exciting. Good Luck friend.

I am very excited about the move! The stairs really do terrify me. My toddler is good about not going down them, but when he's upstairs and wants to come down he'll stand so close to them waiting for someone to come carry him down, and that scares me because he could slip or lose his balance, and that could be horrible! He's not at all afraid of going up them though, and many times he'll follow me up. I'll get to the top and see him coming behind me and I'll reach out for him and grab him just to make sure he won't slip. Normally when I know he's going up I'll walk right behind him just in case of a slip.
I will rest so much easier in the new house when I know there's no way for them to fall and get hurt on stairs!

we have a staircase in this house
it goes up to the second floor where my girls' bedrooms are
they are safe to use if you are walking up them correctly
but you know kids LOL they think they have to run and play around on them
i am always worried that one of these times someone is going to fall and break their neck

Nothing of the sort will happen. Please don't worry. It must be in rarest of rare cases. So many houses have staircases and many people get hurt too. But its only a bruise or a ligament pull maybe. Considering the cases, probability is extremely extremely rare. Even then if you don't feel comfortable, then should think of shifting their bedroom on the groundfloor. Thanks wonttakelong for sharing.

I agree that it isnt that likely they would break their neck LOL
but they have fallen a couple of times on the stairs because of their horseplay on the stairs
my children are not the most graceful little people in the world and normally when there is an injury it is usually a major one.
That just seems to be how our luck is LOL
I would love to rearrange the bedroom assignmennts however it is just not possible
someone will inevitably have to be upstairs
Hopefully they will soon grow out of the "have to run and play on the staircase" phase

Hi there,
No we dont have any staircase inside our house. But i live in the 3rd floor of my building so i have to climb a lot of stairs daily.
Well i have one good quality in me and that is called Patience, lol. I dont hurry while climbing or going down,so no mishaps yet.
A lot of years back when i was in another state of India , we had a lot of rooms upstairs and it was irksome to climb it again and again.
Here in mum bai we dont have that type of houses much. But a lot of people like that kind of houses.
Wish u speedy recovery.
Cheers,
Tutul

Hi tutul! So nice to see you again! Long time. How are you
Absolutely right tutul!! Patience can prevent accidents. So true. But sometimes when you are running late for an outing or so, then you tend to forget things and have to rush back to the rooms to get them and then chances of getting hurt are high. But I understand that with conscious practice I too will learn not to rush on the steps even if there's a hurry.
Thanks for the response and good wishes. Cheers!

The only staircase in my house is the one that goes to the attic. We never use it as we have never cleaned the attic out from when we moved in. The people before us left stuff there and we just haven't cleaned it. There is a lot of space there and I could use it for storage if I could get it cleaned out. I would like to make a nice area up there for my younger daughter to have a play space as she thinks it is a neat area.
Stairways are safe, but you have to pay attention when you are going up them.

Oh good. Hope you clean the attic for your daughter's play space. You're right, we must be careful while using the stairs. Thanks carolscash.

Dear friend,
Yes, I do have a staircase for my home and one inside and one outside. We do not feel any discomfort moreover the inner is much better for privacy and other one is also better if we are giving to our guests or other rents who need their own privacy.

Yes, we do.. but we rarely use it as it's only leading to my parents room.. mom uses the room upstairs when dad is here.. since dad's been working abroad, mom sleeps at one of the rooms downstairs.. she is sleeping with my little sister at my brother's old room while my brother and his wife sleeps at my mom's.. they have decided to exchange rooms because my sister-in-law is 7 months pregnant and she needs a bigger room to put all her stuffs..

I have two staircases in my house, and both have 12 steps and a landing to them. One is from the first floor to the second floor, and the other is to the basement area. There is also a smaller staircase going from the basement area to the outside door. I think stairs are a good thing, for the most part. Sure it's harder as you get older, but I think it's good exercise. A few years back I was sick for a long period of time, and I used the stairs as a way of getting good exercise when the weather was too bad to go outside. I still try and use the stairs as a way of exercising each day. I try to go up and down them a minimum of once a day, and try for once in the morning, and once in the evening. There's no reason I need to go upstairs, but doing this daily has increased my stamina a whole lot.
I have fallen down the stairs before, but now I make sure to always keep a hand on the handrail. I always worry about the grandkids taking a tumble on the stairs. So far, it's only happened once and he didn't get hurt. Now they know that grammy insists on them holding on to the handrail, and not running up or down the stairs.

We have one staircase in our house. I've never gotten hurt on it, but a couple of my kids have fallen down it and gotten a little bruised or sprained something. They are older and know better than to run up and down, but they never listen. I'd prefer a single level house, but with a family as large as we have its hard to find enough room on one level. If I ever had the change to knock this down and rebuild I would definitely make it a single level.

We have a staircase in our house which leads up to the bedrooms and laundry room. I don't always mind going up and down the stairs, except for when I have just gone upstairs and then I realize that I've forgotten something downstairs and I have to go back down for it! Also, if I have to carry something rather heavy upstairs, that can be frustrating. I do like it that our laundry room is upstairs next to the bedrooms though, because now I don't have to go up and down the stairs with a basket full of clothes each time I do the laundry!

We do have a stair case and it goes up half way and then has a little landing and goes up the other half to the upstairs. I really didn't mind having a staircase except we had to gate it off for my little guy. But he is 15 months and climbs up and down very well now. He's learned to turn around backward and kind of slide down on his tummy to get down and he doesn't have any falls anymore so we trust that he can get up and down ok now - although we always watch him. Since we've ungated it though - it seems less appealing to him so he doesn't really get a kick out of going up and down it anymore. So that is also a relief. The only thing I don't like about having two stories is the fact that it gets so much hotter upstairs. This is ok except in the summer time! HOT!

So everythings taken care of regarding your little one. Yes, kids need a constant watch. You are so right jashley. The bedrooms get so hotter than the rooms downstairs.

We have a large staircase in the main hallway, and then two at the back of the house on either side.
We need these as if you are on one side of the house and need to reach the second floor it is a fair way to the main staircase and you would have to pass through several rooms, which is not always convenient.
Because of this it's easier to have stairways.
We were thinking of having a lift installed to take guests up to the guest floor, but it REALLY doesn't fit in with the whole look of the house, so we've never actually had that done.

I wish we did, growing up we had a tri-level that is 2 sets of stairs, you enter on one level and the there are 2 other levels, one leads upstairs and the other leads down...my house is very small and no upstairs or basement... basically a bungelow...and not much room... so all the extra stuff I have right now has no where to go...

we have staircases in our house a back staircase that goes into the kitchen a long staircase to go upstairs and a wooden staircase that goes into the basement where the dryer is so the stairs are a neccesary evil and if you are in a hurry you can easily slip but i try to look at it as a good form of exercise

We live in a apartment. We have both staircase and lift to come up and down. But we dont have staircase inside.I use staircase usually to reach my flat than lift. It's very convinient and good for health.LOl i love climbing and descending several times becoz i feel it as excersize that keep my body healthy

When you have a choice its certainly better. You can choose when to take the stairs for excercise purpose. But when its in your home leading to integral parts of the house then you have to take stairs frequently. Living in a flat mostly means living in a single floor and that is so pretty comfortable. Thanks mymytri for the nice response.

I live in a high-rise apartment block, and my home is on one floor, so there are no staircases that I have to climb to get in and out of my home or move around inside my home. The block has two sets of staircases, but usually that is used by residents only in emergency or when the power supply is cut off. We have several elevators and usually we will use these. I live on the 9th floor, and cannot imagine climbing the stairs to go up and down everyday. The only time we have to use any stairs is when we need to get to the carpark, which is in the basement of the block. My wife and I are not that young anymore, and we're not so strong in our legs when it comes to climbing. So wherever we live, it has to be a place either on ground level (like a house) or in a high-rise that has lifts and preferably that apartment should also have only a single floor without any stairs.

Yes, we have staircases in our home, and they are so inconvenient. From the basement, the stairs head North then turn and go West. To go to the next floor from there, the stairs face East then head North. Thankfully I don't use the very upstairs very often, just mainly for storage. And yes I have taken a fall down the stairs, and since they make a turn, I hit the wall and broke my nose.

Hi Daffodil! I don't live in a house so I only have stairs in
my apartment hallway. When I want to go to my neighbors
apartment I have to climb stairs. I have bad knees so I am
careful when I am going up. I used to live in a house with
stairs and it was not very pleasant! My bedroom was upstairs
so I was up and down alot in one day! I twisted my ankle plenty
of times because I was usually in a hurry!

Good that you dont have to climb stairs as you don't have one. Be careful and hope your ankle is healed now.
Love and hugs to my sweet Opal!!
