From I have known myself I have never liked wearing ties because I have never seen the purpose for doing so .I have to froce myself to wear one to official functions because teh forst thing is that I have to tie it a certain way ,which I spend hours doing and often to no avail. And then you have to wear this thick jacket to go with it ...torture torture ..kill me now !
I have always admired those diplomats and officials who are in their jackets and ties all the time especially when the climate is tropical lol.How do you feel about people in jacket and ties and both ladies and gents are free to respond

I work as a trainer and used to wear uniform, so as a result, a tie is a indispensable decoration. Standardization and professionalization are requirement of my job, so I must tie at any working days! Having said that, I also like to tie because if you do it, you will look much handsome and very spirit. Except for these reasons, ties also can protect my neck and chest from catching a cold!

Hi,
I don't know how true this is but I have heard that the idea of wearing a tie originally came from old church choirs as they thought as it was so cold in the churches that hanging a trip of cloth around their necks would help their vocal chords.
If there is not some kind of logical reason such as this then whoever randomly first said "I know - we will all look much smarter if we hang a strip of cloth around our necks for no apparent reason" should really have got the kicking he deserved.
Despite the fact we are conditioned to think that people in ties look smartwer as that is the social norm - you cannot get around the fact that if you strip all that away, they actually look crap.
Happy mylotting.

It would have to be some stiff necked people who come up with that as their necks are already locked in that position anyway.I hope it helped their vocal chord because it is not helping mine in fact most times I feel as if I am going to choke.Well I must admit it does make some people look smarter even if they are not but part of that is becasue we are culture dto think that.Thank you for your answer

It is damn intriguing a question! Am On in a red tie today, but why am putting on it, I dont know! We Africans just copy Europeans without asking any questions-now I wish I asked th British who colonized!

Hi ronnyb! I do think that people men wearing coat and tie look neat, formal and elegant. But of course, it should be worn on the proper venue. I think the only purpose of a tie is to just accent a man's wardrobe or suit.
Take care and have a great day!

whats the point of wearing many things. Its just looks and fashion. I must say that I love ties I wore a tie to school as part of my uniform and loved it. I also have few suits elegant feminen and also used to wear my fathers suit (just the jacket) with ties. I love it when my husband wears one it looks great on him. But yes some people should stay away from ties and suits. as they look funny in them

I think when ties go with shirt and suit is to show you are presentable and look decent to be respectful. Sometimes you look important when you have ties. That's what I think

In my opinion, a tie was designed for a man either by a woman or by a man with womanish tastes. Woman in my opinion love unwanted and useless appendages more than men! Of all the pieces of unwanted dressing element, tie tops my list. I am too glad that you posted this discussion.
I think, in countries where you get very cold climates, a tie may be tolerable, but think of African countries and my country (particularly where I live, Chennai, South India) where the climate never goes below 17 deg C even in winter!
It is really amusing to see Medical Representatives wearing tie and waiting to meet doctors in hot summer afternoons! In India, ties have been left behind by British as their legacy, and there are still lots of people who think any style, former or casual, is best if you mimic the west. Pharmaceutical industries in India are somehow very particular to retain tie as a formal dress code for their reps.
The next thing I hate is shoes and socks. Again our climate is to blame for it. I am most comfortable wearing just a casual and open foot wear which does not grip my toes like a vise.

well, in business, the tie it`s a must. You can`t forget that. I think that wearing a tie, you`re showing respect and you`re showing that you care about your clothes. When you want to be serious and to have sucess, you need a tie too, and a good one, not any type of tie. When i was a little younger, i had the same problem as you, but now,i even like to wear a good tie, and a good suite. YOu`re gonna be admired, by other business man and by girls too. I guarantee that. Sometimes, in business, the suit will close the deal.
