Elections for the National and Local positions is not going to be so far from now. Television and radio commercials are already flooded with politicians who are aiming a position though they don't claim that in their ads, they are not campaigning yet. Even in the streets, you can also see pictures of politicians and other people who you can say that they will run for a post next year. Now dear friends, dear mylotters, do you have any bet or someone who you want to be the next Philippine President? Are we expecting a Filipino Obama to rise in 2010?

Actually my personal choice is Bayani Fernando. He maybe hated by street vendors but certainly he is the right choice for me as I believe he could teach the Filipinos the right discipline. I presume if he would be elected as a President, he could mold the Philippine into a new Singapore, a small country but very progressive. The laws are strictly promulgated so the people learns to discipline themselves. But I accept the truth that BF is not winnable as surveys shows the popular ones are in the lead. But how I wish people could give him a chance. I saw how he converted his own town into a very clean and disciplined place and I was really impressed with this man.

I agree with your choice my friend. Bayani sure got discipline in his belt and that would be very helpful to the declining Filipino society. I doubt though if he is capable of the legislative skills a President must have. I'll just wait and see, after all, we really don't know what BF has in store for us, he might become the Philippines' very own Obama. Cheers kababayan, happy mylotting.

I agree with you that Bayani Fernando has the qualifications and will to change the Philippines. He is also one of my choices for the next president. However, his affiliation with PGMA gives him a disadvantage. In my opinion, that is the reason he is behind the surveys. People should really give him a chance.
Happy Mylotting!

Actually, it is the executive skill that a President should possess and BF certainly got it. The legislation anyway is done by the Congress and not the President. So I am happy I have two allies here now. Thanks friends! I hope we increase in numbers.

I am really behind for all political issues in Philippines, Neil. Since I don't live there anymore. But in my opinion, yes, I guess, a country like Philippines really needs a president like Obama. Think first very acting. And he is a man of integrity... so Philippines choose the right leader...

My bet for president are Senators Lacson or Roxas. I believe in them. I hope they will be a tandem in 2010 with Lacson for President. Anyway, I think Mar Roxas is younger. I can't wait for the 2010 elections.

Unfortunately, those who have openly declared their desire to run for President are the traditional politicians (trapos). For many elections, the politicians promised us for change but it never came true. the sad story there is that once they are elected, they forget all their promises. That's how Philippine politics works.

Hi neil,
I don't have any bet but I am praying and hoping that we will have a sincere leader for the next election.
I know no one is perfect but at least a person who is not selfish and who is brave and consistent and who will really think what is good for the majority of it's constituents!
I hope and I wish....I love Philippines!

Sorry @neil but I am not looking for an Obama of the Philippines. That is just like Erap when he run for President or the failed Fernando Poe Jr. Ooops, don't get me wrong. I am only comparing the popularity aspect. And there's no other thing to compare really because Obama is just newly elected and he has not proven anything yet.
I would rather have a Lee Kuan Yew or a Margaret Thatcher of the Philippines. Someone that can instill discipline and can run the government fairly sans the corruption. We don't need a 'johnny come lately' who is popular and promising hope (we have so much of those already). We need someone who can really govern with head and heart. A combination of Erap's charisma, Cory's heart, Marcos' intelligence, and maybe Gloria's luck.
Looking at the touted Presentiables, I guess I am asking too much. (Suntok sa buwan, ika nga.) Nevertheless, I will keep on hoping that someday, a good and effective President will govern our country.
