At age 18 and heavily impaired in terms of communication skills, you must be a miracle worker to have an engineering degree and business. How did you do it?

if things weren't so bad i'd say start your own buisness but i don't think now would be a good time to do that. if u have a good job u better hang on to it. i did hair for 47 years. i worked many years for someone else then i went into buisness for myself. it was a whole lot better & i enjoyed it alot more than working for somone else.

Both are risky in the current economy. However, if a person has a steady job, it's really best to hold on to it. Some might start the business of their own on a part-time basis, after work hours, in order to not only get started, but to raise extra capital. In a healthy economy, more than half of the new businesses fail in their first couple of years. In the very poor economy we have now, the odds are really bad. Having owned my own business for many years, I know that expenses are always greater than expected, and contingencies must be funded. It's much harder than most people expect.

If you already have a job, it's probably not a good idea to leave it immediately in the current conditions. You should start a part time business on the side though. Work as a freelancer over the internet, or set up your own internet business, especially one where you can outsource the work. Wait for your part time business to beat your job before quitting.

In this part of the country you are seeing people that have lost their jobs starting up small one man or woman service type jobs. Some men can do light home repairs and some women are doing house cleaning, watching kids and things like this. There are a lot of things people can do if they want to that doesn't require a lot of money to get started. They were showing a man on Fox News that was working a small auto detail shop at his home in the garage. Everyone is not broke. The working people that have lost their jobs are hurting the most. There is still a lot of people around that have the money to pay others to do things for them. This may not hold true farther on down the road so my advice is to do anything you can as soon as you can to get ready for some really hard times in our future. For a lot of people this is the only kind of work they will be able to find. If toy can get something started that will feed you and keep a roof over your head until things start to get better what ever you are doing will just get better. I am a firm believer if a man is willing to work he will always be able to find some little something to make a few dollars. I think this is going to be one time we are all going to learn we can live without all the junk we have bought in the past. Art

well, today, people are buying less and businesses are suffering so if you have your own business, it could be suffering right now and you might wish you have a stable job that pays a fixed rate every month. but for those who have a job but have terror bosses, they are wishing they have their own business, so that they do not have a boss. it really just depend on your choices. or you can have a stable job and you also have sidelines like buying and selling stuff people buy. i try to buy stuff and then sell it at a higher price but that was before, now its harder to sell things
