I've talk to some parent and most of them are complaining why owners of internet cafe with online games is letting students to play during school hours. Online games made their children addicted to it, these student dont report for school anymore, they spend their whole time playing. Parent are concerned for there future no matter what they do and what they say, their children are not listening anymore. I hope government will look into it and should implement strict regulation.

I also just have to add a point to this discussion, high school students and graders should be supervised by cafe' owners, the school, the government and their parents as they are still below legal age and are considered not having the ability to decide for themselves yet.
But with college students, as they are of legal age already, it's up to their own discretion whether to squander around those cafe's or go to school and give worth to the money their parents spend on their studies.

yes even i agree with is point that the internet owners should not allow students to play games at the time of school and according to me govt. can do something to stop this is by pressurising the site owners to lock the gaming at the time of school hrs so that even if they try thry will not be able to do that.....

That is one sad thing happening nowadays. As these internet shops or computer shops that rent their machines allow these students from playing. I think there is no one monitoring this thing around as they are plenty to be watch out for. I think a regulation banning these internet shops from establishing their shops within the proximity of schools should be implemented. I think that would put a stop or at least minimized these students from going there. I know in the city where i used to lived implemented this policy I just do not know if it still is being implemented accordingly.

The problem is that these internet companies aren't violating the law "TECHNICALLY" The truth is that in the Philippines, for instance, it is a perfectly legal to own an internet cafe and have online games.
I agree that this has greatly affected the studies of kids who have developed addiction to these games that they don't feel bad about skipping school just for them. Let's be honest, many parents have been to confident that just because their kids leave the house everyday with their school uniforms on, they assume that they really are off to school.
One thing is for sure, we cannot look to internet shops to help parents on this. They are of course running a business and it has never been part of business to turn away customers just because they should be somewhere else. I guess, it is up to the concerned effort of parents, school personnel and the government to address this. I have known more than a handful of students who check in on internet shops instead of their classrooms every single day and let me tell you something, if these kids are our future, I would be very afraid because they lack the skills that would carry them through life.

I hope some computershop will be closed because they accept some student during class hour. I hope the students will changed because they must study and learn in order for our country to be rise and together with the economy. . . Well that's all my response to your forum discussion. You should pass a complaint to your local government for that. We have that here in my city which states that students (who's in uniform) and those who looks like students (younger years - elementary and highschool) are not permitted to enter an internet cafe and mall during school hours.
I've seen it implemented because they really don't let these kids in, even if they were absent or something like that.
This is the local government's job, not the national ones.

Its not the Internets Cafes fault that people arent monitoring theyre children. If you catch your children "skipping" school you can easily set a budget that matches receipt to receipt this way they dont get any money if they cant tell you where they spent it. Also the school could add a texting system to let you know if your children dont turn up for class. There is no point blaming a business for poor parenting. If a child is sniffing rugby glue is it the glue manufacturers fault??
BUT I do think that in schooling hours Internet cafes shouldnt offer gaming only study and internet browsing for school subjects. Because if a kid is in the internet cafe he/she should be in school in the first place! taking out the opportunity will reduce the risk.
Internet gaming can be addictive but only if people let it. Long term players suffer with the addiction kids who play once a week etc. Dont because they arent given enough time to waste theyre life playing games.
I have played online games to a point where I was in many of the leagues aswell as visiting LAN events for competitions. The truth is if they have games at home unhook them delete them and get your kids to concentrate on doing something useful. Games kill time but since I stopped playing Ive learned to program, use software a lot better such as Excel,Word,Dreamweaver and also developed websites. All in my spare time. Your kids should be doing the same as salaries in the Philippines are very poor but the internet is a window of opportunity that can offer a future for those who get into it young and develop with it.

That's one reason we should not introduce internet to children at young age.The misuse it and later get addicted to it.Right now i am also addicted to online games.I play it most of the time in the day.But only when i feel bored. The government already have many other tasks to do.Its the job of the parents to bring the children up in a creative way.

This is so true. I know that there is a law prohibiting internet cafe's very near to school but nevertheless kids still find a way to cut class and use their allowances to play games. The education of our youth is at stake here so I think that the parents must collaborate with their child's school to prevent this. The government must also take a closer look on this issue.

This is absolutely NOT a problem to be legislated. It's not the government's problem and it's not the cafe owners' fault. The parents are the only people who can deal with it. Think about it - internet cafes cost money. Where did the kids get the money? From their parents. Who isn't punishing them for not going to school? Their parents. Asking the government to create laws is just a way of avoiding parental responsibility.

I asked my sister how much money is she giving to her children daily before going to school. She said good enough for transpo, food and a little contingency for any assignment. But one of my sister's son have his failing grades of 73 for his Geometry. I doubt if these computer gamers attending their lessons are learning more academics rather than computer tricks and strats. This boy in our family is trying to impersonate the character that he used to in the games that he played. Since he failed his Math III because of his irresponsible acts in school, he wanted to move to a Public High School to earn much freedom doodling in the computer cafes. Sigh! It seems to me that these days students are like our nation's non-sense liability that we can not live without. So I think the government shall regulate internet cafes. No computer games for school children during school days. Not just school hours but all throughout the school week. Thanks for posting this discussion.

Hello Shoemaker! I agree with you, the government should have strict implementation concerning computer games. When we don't have computer yet, I usually go to internet cafe and I saw lots of students not only college students but highschool students who were there during school hours. Others even went there overnight. I never got addicted to it, that's why I am wondering why there are lots got hooked with it that they even used their allowances.
One of the example is my brother. He got addicted to lineage2 that he even went there the whole day. I am glad he is not addicted to it anymore. My mom got strict in giving him allowance. I really feel sorry for those parents in the province who might be blind about this and their son/daughter might tell them to send money for projects when in fact they will just use it for playing online.

very timely issue you brought up there man, I think schools should coordinate with these cafe's nearby their premises in order to control this very disturbing trend. If this and any other measure for control fails, then maybe it's time to bring it up to the government officials and maybe they could do something like pass a resolution about it. But it should be first negotiated first and see if it will suffice the problem as the government has their own problems to worry about, better not to complicate their work. Cheers mate, by the way Filipino here.

Actually, the reason why there's so many internet cafes around a school is because of online games. Business is good because students like to unwind (or cut classes because the professors are too stressful). It is really an issue if students skip classes just to play. But we can't really limit that. How about making "studying" a bit more fun? Schools should make education a little more fun so that they can pull back the interests of the students. I don't think the traditional classroom setting is fun. Schools should make a research about how the students want to learn their subjects. It's easier to motivate the kids to study more if you know what they like. We shouldn't always put these problems to the government. I think they already have a LOT of problems for themselves. If we stop complaining and start resolving these issues for ourselves then we can make the future of the next generation a little brighter. ^_^

I am a student, and I am also wondering why some computer shops let students play games during school hours.
I guess, one way I can answer that is through profit. They earn a lot thru students. Because some students also don't care about studying and that playing is one way thing to prove themselves which I find it quite not right.
I don't think our government is strict with this. Well, i just hope so they improve this because it is not helping the students.

I think there was an ordinance at Manila prohibiting children to go and play at computer cafe and shops from 8am to 4pm, they are only allowing children to have a research on the net and strictly no LAN or online games.
