Do Chihuahuas truly help asthma?

I have heard so many people talk about how Chihuahaus help kids or people with asthma. My daughter suffers from asthma and we tried this theory. We bought a chihuahua and kept it for several months hoping that it would help her. It seemed to only make her worse. Even though we didn't get any good results from this "myth" I thought it would be nice to know if anyone else has tried it and what the outcome was for them.
