How did you know you are going to deliver?

I've read that there are three signs to know that we are going to deliver the baby:
1. Contraction. The stomach pain becomes more frequent and more severe.
2. Water bag broken and water leaks.
3. Bleeding
I am not sure if the sign is really obvious when you are going to deliver, as this is my first baby. There are only 5 days away from my expected due date. I had some blood spots last Saturday, and doctor has checked that I'm still not going to deliver yet. Today, I am spotting again, from morning until night time, though I still do not feel any stomach pain yet. Doctor said, usually the bleeding will be continuous, and mine is not really continuous. I am still monitoring if this is the sign of delivery.
How about you? Was your sign of giving birth obvious? How did you realize that you are going to deliver?

Those three signs you have mentioned are indicative of possible giving birth. How weeks is the baby in your womb? When I gave birth to my only child, I had a pinkish blood spot and I never had contraction when the blood came out. I immediately called my OB and when she checked me up, the baby was already 2cm. Better see your OB soon. Good luck and congratulations in advance.

Neither times was I sure that I was in labor and about to deliver my baby. I had mild tummy and back pain all day and ran a bath to settle me before bed. However at that moment my contractions got really strong. Later on I had some blood, called a show, and my waters broke. I pushed for twenty minutes before my baby was born.
The second time around I woke up with light contractions and it was about half an hour I realized it was labor. I had a spot of blood and an hour later strong contractions when my waters broke. My baby was born when I sat up after two contractions with no pushing.
Good luck with the birth of your baby. Contractions will tell you when I imagine.

Well I didn't star labour naturally, they gave me the drip and then I was feeling contractions. As you said, you will see some spots and if the water brokes means it is the time. Depends on you, since there are women who delivers always before the due date and others who delivers always after the due date. I know that the last few days are tremendous since you would be anxious to see your baby, well the doctor will soon tell you, and you will soon have your babay in your arms. Congratulations for your first baby :)

Well nobody told me what a pregnant woman feels when she is about to deliver. I only know that your tummy would ache and sometimes your water bag will break. When it was my time, I thought it was just a stomach ache not until a saw some streak of blood in my undies that I became alarmed. So I had my brother rushed me to the hospital. And after 2 hours, I gave birth to a bouncing baby boy.

I did not have any bleeding with the first or second child before delivering. I was induced with my first and My water broke with my second child. You need to watch for your plug but you may not see it. You will drop usually about a week before delivery and I would say just watch for the contractions and any signs of leakage. Once your water breaks you will need to be in the hospital. Just take it easy and your baby will be here before you know it.

Hi kaka135 - First off, CONGRATS on your soon to be baby! That is wonderful. I'm sure you are very excited and a little nervous too. Do you know if you are going to have a boy or a girl?
The last few days right before I gave birth to my one and only son (who is now 14), I cleaned the house like crazy! I was on the floors scrubbing and cleaning anything and everything possible. Now, the key here is I hate to clean! lol
I have heard that obsessive cleaning is one sign that you'll soon deliver. Of course, the ones you mentioned are very key also... those will be the physical signs of contractions and your water breaking. Not everyones water breaks before they get to the hospital, mine didn't. I started feeling regular mild contractions in the late morning and by noon time I knew I was in labor. I called my husband's work to have him come home and, of course, he was on his lunch break so they had to find him! lol I delivered late that evening at 10:10 p.m. to a healthy little boy. Good luck with your delivery! I am sure everything will be just fine. Take care

The first time, the baby was 15 days late and we had several false alarms. It wasn't really all that obvious. The second time, I awoke to a huge gush of blood that just kept on and on, so I knew!

All my three started with contractions - and there wouldn't ba a chance of missing that it had started *lol*
I can easy be at home and cope well up to 5 cm dialeted (here they never do internal checks if it's not very important - or if you have started labor)
When I hit 5 cm - it takes about 1 hour until the baby is out - that means a pain from h*ll for an hour since it's going so fast.
The blood spotting might me dthe muscus plug that will get out - this is not a sign of labor ;-) )
Good Luck

I delivered by cesarian but did not really schedule the day for the operation. I waited till it was really the time for me to deliver before we went to the hospital to do the operation. It was just a little bleeding that I had in the morning of that prompted us to go to the hospital and as my OB checked me up, she confirmed that I was due to give birth that 4th day of May 1987 to my one and only son. Thank God I did not experience any pain before the delivery. It was after the surgery that I got pains of course but just seeing my newborn child compensated all the pains I had.

Pain kaka..pain. My water didn't break for my first two but it did with my last one. I was hurting pretty bad and I "just knew". I didn't spot though with blood and don't remember that until right before I delivered and was being checked. If you continue to spot you should go ahead and go. If there is pain..it's time. They say to time the pain. From when it atarts to when it finishes as this will help you know how close you are. The closer the pains..the sooner it will be. If you go in with pain they will likely induce since you are so close to time.

Best wishes, kaka135. What an exciting time this is for you.
Everyone is so very different with it comes to 'knowing'. Anytime bleeding is involved it is a good idea to stay in contact with the doctor. In my case, I just KNEW. Things had just changed with my body. For about 3 days the babies activity level had changed, I started paying really close attention to my body and while I was nervous that I would know what do to, I suddenly got this peace about me. When the first contraction happened (and there was no doubt it was a contraction) my whole being just kicked into 'okay-this-is-happening' mode.
If possible, relax, just let yourself enjoy this and revel in the magic of all that is going on with your body.
Be well. And keep us updated.

You will definately know that you are in labor.
With my first the contractions started on New Year's Eve at about 10 p.m. I walked for about 2 hours thinking that it would help but it didn't. I finally had her on January 1 @ 5:23 p.m. They finally had to break my water because I was 10 cm and 100% thinned out and my water still would not break.
With my second child when he was ready he was ready. 5 minutes after I started having contractions I timed them and they were a minute and a half apart. I started having contractions about 1:15 a.m with him and at 1:20 left for the hospital. When I arrived I was 6cm and 100% thinned out. I had him at 2:42 a.m. And they had to break my water with him too. For some reason my water would not break with neither one of them and they had to break it for both of them.

I never had any bleeding when I was going to deliver. I've been through labor 4 times, delivering 5 children. Each one was different. The first started with contractions, but they were very faint at first, just feeling like I had to pee. Within a few hours they were stronger and stronger, and after awhile I couldn't take the pain anymore and went to the hospital.
With the second, it was twins. That started with extreme pressure on my bladder that wouldn't ease up at all. It didn't come and go like contractions do, it just stayed. I was already at the hospital when that happened.
With the 3rd I was induced because labor was not starting on it's own, and I was a week late already.
With the 4th the contractions started really strong and really hard. Right when they started they were already 5 minutes apart, and my entire labor was only 3 hours.
I know it's hard to believe, but trust me, when you're in labor, you will know it, and you have to have patience. I know it's really hard, because I've been there, especially for my last 2 which both came a week late. I was looking for any sign that labor was coming! But there were no signs until it just happened. You'll know, most definitly.

Baby shifted and dropped as I recall. Then I had the pains around the stomache. They kept getting closer. Then my water broke and that is when the doctor told me it was time and to come in. After I got to the hospital the nurses were jerks and not very compassionate or anything. I was in communication with the nurses and doctor and they just took me in when it was time.

I had cramping for about 4 days. Started out like light period cramps, and each night got more and more painful. The day I went into labor I had my doctors appt in the morning and had lost 2lbs. I had heard if you all of a sudden loose 2-3 lbs then you are about to go into labor. That theory worked for me!!! I was in a lot of pain and was really uncomfortable all day. Went to the hospital late that night and had her the next day! I did not have any bleeding at the end though.
