How to update or upgrade mysql 5.1.30 to version 5.1.31

anybody here knows how can i update my sql server without loosing my old data that was stored in my server? i'm thinkin if i can only overwrite the old version with the new one. is this possible? does anyone of you here already did that? or do i really need to uninstall the old version and then install the new one and update all the tables. thanks in adavance.
