Last Minutes are the Hardest

I run on a treadmill, relying on its tireless running strip to keep me going. But even with the treadmill nudging me along, it always seems like I'm going to slip off the strip during those critical last minutes. How do you motivate yourself to get through--and finish--your workouts?

I watch a film/tv show whilst on my treadmill. This distracts me running.
If not I have My Ipod, with lots of fast dancing fast beat music. Disco/Rave music.
Sometimes if I feel like I'm going to fall off, I hold on to the bar.
When I get down to the end I make the treadmill go faster. Then I feel rally good. I walk it out.
Then lots of stretches.
I Love running

Yes, music helps a lot. Funny talk radio helps pass the time as well; but be careful not to laugh too hard. Once I nearly took a terrible tumble because I was so caught up in laughing at some funny bit on the Howard Stern show that I almost forgot I was on the treadmill. I took a couple of less-than-graceful stumbles and managed to recover my stride; could've been a great disaster. Thanks for your response.

Sorry to hear about your injury. I usually run about 3 miles (please excuse my American adherence to the old English system; I'll leave the metric conversion up to you ;) ) each workout; I'm usually a lot more active during the summer. Currently, I get in about 2 workouts a week. In the warmer months, I try to do 3-5. Speaking of injuries, last January I managed to damage my plantar fasciitis (some ligament that attaches the arch in the foot to the heel) in my right foot. I had to take a break for several weeks after that episode. Luckily, rest was all I needed to recover. Nowadays, if I feel any discomfort in my legs or feet, I take a break from the treadmill and use an elliptical trainer (they're a lot more forgiving on the joints.) But I still prefer the treadmill; I get a much better workout on them.

How long do you run and how often?
I broke my tibia in June, prior to that I was running 5 kms a day. This would take me about 1/2 an hour.
What about you?

Well, if it is a workout where I know in the end I will feel good about myself for what I accomplished, I just find a way to keep going. I seem to never get enough excercise myself since I work the Swing shift. So sometimes on my days off, I make a point to do some walking. Even if it is one end of a Store and back, etc. I know I am doing what I set out to do.
