hello everybody here at Mylot.
oops!, this morning i forgot to sit out something for dinner tonight to cook. so i guess that my family and myself will just have something like sandwiches, canned soup or some noodles in a box. i went out shopping for awhile this morning and when i got back home, i totally forget to sit out any frozen meat for dinner tonight. yikes! sue me! lol
so tell me, what do you or your family have for dinner when that the chef of the house forgets to sit the food out like that to un-thaw for dinner that night?
thanks for sharing and have a beautiful afternoon.

I usually make sure I have a few days worth of thawed meat in the fridge. That way I don't really have to worry about it. Or sometimes I'll cook the frozen meat in the slow cooker. If it's ground beef you can still cook that in a skillet even if it's frozen.
With me it's usually more along the lines of there's nothing that I want to cook! In that case I will order out if I can afford it, or I'll find something easy in the cupboard.

that is nice that you keep a few days of food thawed out in the fridge like that. usually when i try to do that, then my plans do not happen with that food and sometimes i have to throw it away. lol life happens. that does not happen very often at all thou where that i would have to throw some kind of food away like that. thanks for responding.

This happens at my house about once a week. I then put something in the microwave to defrost. I have started putting a cookie sheet in my fridge with two frozen (still wrapped) items on in the mornings. I will cook those items that night and the next then in goes another cookie sheet with 2 more things.
Usually when I forget we have something with burger (beef or turkey) because it defrosts better in the microwave.
And sometimes I "forget" on purpose, and ask my husband to set something out. He never tells me what he has set out so it is a chalenge to me to fix something exciting. And sometimes he "forgets" and takes me out to dinner instead.

I didn't take anything out of the freezer either. Didn't even give it a thought since I decided we would go out to dinner tonight. I am so lacking in the kitchen department but my husband doesn't mind eating out. It's really a good chance for us to talk since he works such long hours now and when we are home to eat, the tv gets in the way. He won't sit at the kitchen table without tv on. He blasts it so we end up yelling at each other. It's almost comical.

I order pizza or go pick up some Chinese food like I am doing tonight or I make something simple like grilled cheese or mac and cheese and hot dogs. My kids actually prefer it when I don't cook because they get the foods they would not normally get.

I always stuck it in the microwave to defrost it if I forgot to put it in the fridge to defrost. Usually I would move it from freezer to fridge the night before, right before I went to bed. That way I didn't forget!

I have cooked meat from frozen a lot. I do a lot of freezer meals and when I forget to pull one out I just cook it lower and slower. For the most part it always works out just fine. I forget to pull the meals out a lot so I guess Ive learned to adapt.

I didn't thaw anything out either so I had to stop at the store on my way home tonight and buy some meat to cook. I was glad that I did as it was a better meal than I would have had anyway. I am getting pork chops out now to cook for dinner tomorrow night and then I won't have to worry about it.

That hardly happens to me. That's because I usually get my maid to plan the week's dinner and lunch menu, and then I will moderate it with her. When the day comes, whatever that needs thawing from the freezer to be cooked for dinner has to come out by early afternoon. If I don't see those items taken out, I will have to remind my maid, so we usually don't end up with the problem of not sitting out the frozen stuff. Occasionally though, my maid may take out things but the wrong ones, for example, taking out the wrong fish to cook. If we discover that too late and the fish is already thawed, we will then make little adjustments to the menu.

Hi TnWoman,
At least you didn't have to cook lol! I have a microwave so I just thaw things out in it so no problems and I always end up cooking but sometimes we just get a take-away food. Love and hugs.

Hey TnWoman! I don't think that you should be so hard on yourself!
The cook is allowed a night off! I have done that myself! And I
would do exactly what you have done! I make tuna sandwiches and
soup or something very similar! It is just me and my boyfriend,
but we make do with whatever is quick and simple! It isn't a crime
to forget once in awhile to take something out for dinner!

This happened to my husband and I the other night. Lucky for us, we live next door to the best burger chain in Canada. We ran out and got a couple of their bacon mushroom swiss burgers, and ate those for dinner. They were really good. We love their burgers.

I don't think my mom has ever done that before. Maybe she didn't tell me *laughs*. But sometimes I do understand that, I am starting to get forgetful these days and I am sure if I cook, then I would probably forget to sit out something!

Hi ya TnWoman
Well I try to scrape something else to cook quickly enough or have baked potatoes which takes little preperation or we just get a takeaway if I have the money!! I like that idea because that would mean I get the night off from cooking and from the washing up too!!

Do they not have microwaves in Nashville? You can defrost in the microwave as mentioned in previous posts. If you do not like that it can be spaghetti night. Open up a jar of spaghetti sauce and boil up some spaghetti and grate some cheese on top, usually any cheese will do. Or if you can afford it, it can be take out pizza night.
