I think the chicken came first as God when he was creating things made everything in a pair so rthat they could multiply. So for me ,the chicken came before the egg.

from your answer i know that you are a believer in god and have a feeling in your mind that everything cannot be explained by science itself you might believe it and so will i but what abt the others who do not have believe in any god ,they will say the egg came first and then saying a few scientific wors which might go over our heads.

If you believe in the biblical theory of creation, the chicken came first. since it is written that God created Adam and Eve as adults, wouldn't he have created all other animals as adults? The bible doesn't say anything about babies until Adam and Eve bare children.
If you believe in Darwin's theory of evolution, the egg would have to come first, since things all evolved from something else, thus starting off as babies.

I would answer the Egg.
Somewhere along the evolutionary line a creature was born who laid and egg, its hatchling was different than it perhaps more chicken like. it in turn laid and egg that was a little different and so on and so one until a creature hatched that was very close to the avian we now know as a chicken.
i base my belief in scientific facts of how the evolutionary process works. Its very easy to believe in when you see how people change a species by selective breeding even today.
and for the creationists among us... why cant your God have created a creature and then Allowed it to evolve?? I personally see no exclusions here. the two beliefs are actually quite compatible.
