It is 24th February 2009 today which is a special day for me because I set off traveling around the world that day in 1993. I flew from London to Los Angeles, then Hawaii, then Fiji, then Sydney, then Adelaide, then Cairns, then Darwin and lastly Singapore before flying back to London. My journey lasted just over one year. I treasure my memories from my longest trip that I have ever done. Would you like to go around the world?

Wow! That's quite a trip. I want to travel the world when I get my degree, but unfortunately it doesn't seem like my finances will permit it. ...are you going to do it again in the future? :3

I traveled around the world before my degree. However when I began teaching I did go back to Australia in the summer holidays. I would love to travel by plane from London to Halifax, go across Canada by train and then fly from Vancouver to Hong Kong. Then I would love to catch trains home from there via Beijing and Moscow. I wish you happy traveling.

I treasure all my memories and remember lots of details of my trip. It is excellent to have my anniversary of my longest trip because I am not likely to have another trip like that again. Maybe you could travel near to your home country for a shorter time.

Hi there Checapricorn. I hope that one day you will be able to do a trip similar to mine. I got money monthly from letting my home out and I did some work in Australia on a working holiday visa. Traveling helps me enjoy life.

I realize that I was very lucky and many people dream of going around the world. I let my home out and got a working holiday visa for Australia. I had been made redundant so I had plenty of time. Since then I haven't taken a trip nearly that long.

What a wonderful opportunity! I would love to travel, especially to the places you mention. I think traveling is a great learning experience and try to go away as often as possible. I can't possibly take that much time off, but do long to visit Fiji one day. Maybe in future. Thanks for sharing.

Nowadays I travel for just a few weeks so it is wonderful to remember my longest trip. I learned a lot about the world and its people. I developed my patience and it led on to my career in teaching. I was young enough, age 20, to get away with traveling for just over one year. I hope that you visit Fiji one day. I adore all those islands in the South Pacific.

Congradulation for your anniversary of global travel. In China, we have quite some people who are on travels and keep journals of what they see and are getting them published, with photos taken around the world. Before they set out on trip, they did much research and get physically ready for the long travel. I believe you must also have a lot in writing to contribute to people interested and to the hobby of global ventures, so to speak, esp. in places of unfamiliar cultures. I would so much have the luck to join the team, but not hopeful. The last thing I would like to do is to go through so complicated visa procedures, which is obviously discriminating to elderly ladies.

Thanks my friend, my anniversary is special to me. It is excellent some Chinese people love to travel and publish their tales. One day I would love to go to China. I know getting a visa can be a bit bothersome. I hope you join the traveling team one day. Good luck.

Well congratulations on your anniversary. Do you have any other future plans to travel? I don't know if I'd ever want to go around the world, but I'm definitely addicted to travelling. I love everything about it - even the negative parts like layovers in airports and long haul flights. It's just so exciting and amazing to be in one country and then a mere 14 hours later be sleeping on the floor of an airport on the other side of the world. I love it and can't wait to travel some more. I'm from Brisbane, Australia and so far have made two trips and spent about four months in the U.S.A. I definitely want to see more of the states, but I'd also love to visit and travel around Europe.

I loved it in Brisbane and the area around it. I went to the beautiful Glasshouse Mountains, a waterfall and some of the islands off the coast. I hope to go to Canada in 2010 to enjoy Canada Day on 1st July. I hope to go to Vancouver and pop down to Seattle as well as pop up to the Rockies. Yes, the USA is huge with so much to see. I hope you go back there and then on to Europe.

Wow... what a lovely trip. I'm sure you enjoyed your journey around the world very much. I've never been to Australia. Somehow, it never really appealed to me, but the Barrier Reef must be beautiful. However, I don't know whether I could stand such a long flight nowadays. Brightest Blessings my friend.

No...not in one shot. I like traveling but going to a specific place for a certain amount of time like a week or two then heading home is what I like to do...but to go on one big trip around the world wouldn't be for me..

I would very much like to travel the world. I've only went out of state once in my life, and that wasn't under comfortable circumstances. It was kind of a custody thing between my parents, which I had never even met my father until then, so I hated every second of it. But I would really like to see different countries some day. My main priority right now is raising my daughter, and hopefully having more children. Maybe travel can be something to look forward to closer to retirement age!

I am not a fan of traveling long distances so therefore enjoy staying where we are now. At one point I did want to travel but no longer do. Congratulations on your journey across the world anniversary!

Not a question of would I like to go round the world, because I've done so already! I'm not sure of the exact dates - it could have been May 1990 to May 1991; about 12 and a half months in total. Will have to look that one up! The route I took was also in a roughly westerly direction, flying from London to New York. Overlanding in the States, for one month on a mini-bus camping trip from NY to LA through the northern states and bits of Canada. Then Greyhounding from LA to Miami. Flew to Buenos Aires from there and spent several months exploring Argentina, Brazil, Bolivia, Chile and Peru using rail, coach (bus)and plane. Then flew via LA to Hawaii, spending a few days on the island of Maui, a few days in Auckland, NZ, then two months in Australia. On to Bali, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand. Ten week overland trip from Kathmandu to Cairo (overflying Iran). Finally back to Blighty (England) for my brother's wedding! There are certainly plenty of memories to treasure, as I have photo albums holding well over a thousand pics! These days, travelling is not such a priority for me. I am exploring new age, philosophy, therapies and what is likely to happen in the future! - all highly interesting stuff!!!

That is fantastic you are blessed to have been able to do this. Yes I wish I could afford to travel like that. Did you do it alone? Those are great memories that you have made. I have a family member that is a world traveler, but she and her husband didn't do it all at one time. They would take one trip a year. Since the economy is bad now they have slowed down a lots.
