What a difference one message made!

tweeter, jonathon ross, celebrity, followers - This one message made my Tweeter followers jump in the space of a few minutes

I have been using Twitter for a couple of months. I write about stuff on MyLot and I look after Yuwie but Twitter has been my 'water-cooler' since being made redundant last October. I don't go for automatic systems to get followers, they are all genuine contacts or people who have asked to follow me. Today I got a nonsense reply from Jonathon Ross (one of the famous celebrity tweeters) and instantly about 30 people jumped on the bandwagon and wanted to follow me. Is the cult of celebrity getting out of hand? http://www.tweeter.com/noot54

Never used twitter but I have been thinking of checking it out. Is it like a forum? Or is it more like a blog?

A bit of both really! It's based on the question 'what are you doing right now?' and your entry is restricted to 140 characters, including a url if you want to poin t to a blog or outside site. Having a senior moment I gave the wrong url it's http://www.twitter.com/noot54, not TWEETER!

I'm sure a celebrity tweet will get you noticed, and 30 new followers in one go is great. Well done. I know automatic direct messages have little value at Twitter, but I was still thrilled to get one from Yoko Ono when I started to follow her. As a result of following Yoko I am now followed by a Liverpool news site and by fab4peace / Purple Revolver who will be reconstructing the famous bed-in of John Lennon and Yoko, on the 40th anniversary, in Liverpool next month. I like your description of Twitter as a 'water cooler' I think that is very apt.
