This is not my grandfathers or fathers marketing anymore. After publishing my book, Recession Survival Guide, I've been following all the usual rules of marketing only to find that it is far more complicated than first anticipated.
What are other people doing to market their product(s) online?
How successful is each type of marketing?
Is there such a thing as low cost marketing anymore?
Richard.

There is such a thing as low cost and even no cost marketing via social sites like Facebook, Twitter and social media sites like Squidoo, Hubpages, Search Engine Optimization techniques...and the list goes on.
This is a great time to be publising a book like that, so there's no reason why you shouldn't be getting at the very least, hits to your site and even leads.
I suggest you do some press releases at the very least and start forming an marketing campaign asap.

Hi Richard, it doesn't really matter WHAT you promote on the internet, what you need is traffic, traffic, traffic..... and then some more. Yu can have a superior product or service (which, I'm sure, yours is), but if nobody (or only a few people) actually look at the site you are promoting your book with, you will have very few, if any, sales. On the other hand, you can promote a mediocre (or even bad) product, but if you have thousands of people looking at it, you will make sales. If you're new to this I'd suggest you forget promoting your book and focus on generating traffic first. Sounds brutal, I know, but that's internet marketing.
