We all know about the stereotypical traits that we associate with gay guys: girlishness, the limp wrist, lisping, and shoes to die for. :P
But when people mention gaydar, they hardly talk about lesbians. That's why I'm making a topic about it.
So myLotters, what traits do you associate with lesbianism, and how do you tell if a girl is gay?

I know far too many ditzy, overweight girly-girls to associate it with lesbianism. I don't know why, maybe it's because they're so insecure with their weight that they try to play up their femininity to compensate.
I agree with your observations about piercings. I find that a lot of them tend to have tattoos, too. I guess people who are comfortable with being open about their sexuality are also the people who aren't afraid of not conforming.

I have a great gaydar (maybe cause I'm gay? duh :P) I've many times even noticed through listening to a song if the woman singing is gay or not. It's pretty funny actually.
I'd say while stereotypes portrayed by the media do fit in a lot of the times it's not something you can go by and judge others by. Many lez girls are very femme and is someone you'd never guess is gay (the lipstick lesbian lol). But I agree with the above posts that the easiest stereotype to spot is probably the butchy type that's a bit overweight with short hair, got piercings/tattoos and a rainbow bracelet. :P

Oh, I agree! There are a lot of conventionally feminine lesbians but they go under the radar while the ones who conform to stereotypes are more easily noticed.
While these things are not obvious, I wonder if there are still qualities, as elusive as they may be, that one could pick up on.

I would think that the term Gaydar covers lesbians. they're gay too after all. not just the men.
whatever gaydar is, I show up on it.
lots of lesbians try to chat me up.
I'm not offended by this of course. it's always flattering when someone is attracted to you, even if they're not of the gender you go for.

It does. But I've only ever seen people talk about gaydar with respect to men.
