The basis of Happiness

All the people always want to be happy in their life but we donot know how the actual happiness in our life.For me its like-- the more we give, the more we receive and the more we become! That is the maxim for true and abundant happiness. And yet, "the more I give, the less I have and the less I become" seems to be the dictum most people believe in and live by. They therefore hesitate to give. And if at all they do give, they do it grudgingly. The result is: unhappiness. What is your views guys?
