Hi bombshell,
Honestly, I haven't tried too. Not a tradition in our family and that is also because of lack of money!
We grew up in my Mom's place and their tradition their is just to prepare chicken and pansit and rice! hehehehe!
I am also contented with this even until this time, but I guess it is exciting to try it one day, how it feels! lOL!

I got to be luckier than you my friend, lol. I remember when I was still in grade school, I had blown some candles during my birthdays. And the last candle that I blown in my birthday was when I was 21, that's long ago. Anyway, since you dream of it, why not do it in your next birthday. I guess that would be great...

we are not poor but we didn;t cut cake or blowing candles and it is not our tradition in our house. just my mother makes one cake on our birthdays and she puts to us .no occasion or calling friends and relatives.my mother buys new clothes before our birthday day.and we wear it on our birthday day .
we also just go to temple on our birthday day. i didn;t dream to blow candles becuase i don;t like it and now after marriage also we did blow candles on our house or my husband will not also blow candles.now just we gives gifts on birthday day.

Truly an intersting experience for you. I never got the timemy birhtday. only farewall, but that's enought for me. Growing our age, we are no longer young. We increase the responbility on our selves, other people and families. But for me, its not somethinks we are increasingly understanding on the origin of what was growing up. Enjoy it

My family was not rich when I was young since we were 9 children we never had grand birthdays. My mom would just cook spaghetti or something special..and my Aunt would bake me a simple cake and I would have 1 balloon..I did experience to blow a cake though. I am sorry you never experienced it though. If you just live near me I'll get you a cake to blow on your birthday. It won't be big though but something you will experience doing. I do hope your dream will come true someday.. Take care!

i think over half of my birthdays we have done it.. some we were at a restaurant so there werent any candles then.. one year you need to remember and try to do it for yourself.. it may seem silly to do it NOW but little things mean a lot when you have never gotten to experience them before

hello bombshell!
Like you I grew up also of an old tradition celebrating birthdays by lighting candles in the church and attending the mass every birthday, but I never experience so far blowing candles of birthday cakes like what we saw on celebrities' birthday celebration. I am also wishing that one day I can blow candles on my birthday cake. Hope our dreams can come true before the sunset of our lives.hehehe

I understand your feelings. When our material property fails us, we have to turn to other resources to keep a balanced mood. That is a kind of Ah Q way of thinking, as we chinese sometimes call it. Being careless about the current inferior living does not mean we give up seeking for a change. This can and should be changed into a strength to study and work harder to attain a better financial status. Property is not something to be ashamed of, but more appreciated as the result of our own endeavors. Hope the nation as a whole will move forward so that the people can follow likewise. Good luck, and keep dreaming.

that would not be much fun to never have had a cake at least once we used to have cakes for our birthdays in our family when we were younger but as we got older more often then not we would go out to eat for our birthdays which i liked just as much getting to have whatever you wanted for a birthday meal made me feel good always nice when you have your family around for birthdays we had a small family only mom, dad, me and my sis for most of my life now she is married with a daughter and i am living with my fiancee so hopefully we can enjoy birthdays with the little one as well this year will be her 2nd birthday maybe we can get her not to wear the cake this year it is nice her birthday is right between my sister's and mine and we are only 11 days apart so should be fun

hello bombshell
i am so very sorry to hear that you have never got to celebrate one of your birthday's by having birthday cake and getting to blow out the candles on the cake. or getting to receive any gifts either. but that is neat that you get to go to the church to light candles and pray. and yes, every year on my birthday, i have a birthday cake and get to blow out the candles on my cake. i am almost fifty years old so i cannot imagine blowing out that many candles on my birthday cake, so what that i usually get on my birthday cake are two big number candles. lol that still works thou. and my hubby, my parents and my brother usually always gets me something for my birthday present. sometimes my hubby and myself will go out to eat or go see a movie. my Mom usually gets me some kind of make-up that i have been wanting or needing and my brother, who knows what that he will wind up getting me. lol one of these years on your birthday, i hope that you will get to blow out the candles on your birthday cake. (hugs)
take care and have a beautiful afternoon.
