For the first time perhaps ever, Rupert Murdoch has issued a personal apology regarding the controversial cartoon appearing in his New York Post last week. You can read it here: As the Chairman of the New York Post, I am ultimately responsible for what is printed in its pages. The buck stops with me. Last week, we made a mistake. We ran a cartoon that offended many people. Today I want to personally apologize to any reader who felt offended, and even insulted. Over the past couple of days, I have spoken to a number of people and I now better understand the hurt this cartoon has caused. At the same time, I have had conversations with Post editors about the situation and I can assure you - without a doubt - that the only intent of that cartoon was to mock a badly written piece of legislation. It was not meant to be racist, but unfortunately, it was interpreted by many as such. We all hold the readers of the New York Post in high regard and I promise you that we will seek to be more attuned to the sensitivities of our community. http://www.nypost.com/seven/02242009/news/regionalnews/statement_from_rupert_murdoch_156676.htm My question is, what took him so long? What say you? Annie

Why should he have to apologize for criticizeing the way the stimulus bill was written. What are we not allowed to critize Pelosi now? He bowed to preasure. But really I do not feel he had anything to apology for.

Agreed although I will say if any apology is necessary it is to the poor woman lying in the hospital and her family.

I agree with both of you on this. He owes no apology for mocking a poorly written stimulus bill, or for comparing Pelosi's writing skills to that of a chimp. He should apologize to the woman, or the family of, who I believe is now in an induced coma as a result of the chimp attack.

I think it is good that he apologized, but he still managed to blame the reader for taking offense at the cartoon. But, it is more than I expected from him.

I say he chickened out. He should of stuck it to Al Sharpton and the rest of the knee-jerkers by sticking by the message of the cartoon. Instead he bent over backwards to accommodate people (most of which probably don't even read the publication), because they had a stick up their butt about a simple cartoon. I now the guy even less than I did before. I didn't know that was even possible.

The print media is going to he!! and Murdoch possibly felt that he had to say something to pacify what little readers he still has. I heard today that San Francisco is losing a major newspaper, although I didn't catch which one it was. Business is business and regardless of how Murdoch really feels, he saw his readership declining fast because of that cartoon.
