hmm run an antispyare or try un installin any new progmras tht u have installed recently
tht should help n then u can use ur adapter again

Try using your wireless adapter in another computer. It will be detected or not. Sometimes the USB slot is damaged, and maybe your wireless adapter hardware is damaged. USB wireless adapter is not as strong as PCI or PCMCIA wireless adaptor. It easily gets hot.

I don't know what happened but I assume it was a plug and play device unless you had to install software to use it. First try going to the control panel and add/troubleshoot hardware area and see if you can find something there. If that doesn't work and you did not have to install software, one thing you might try is going to the control panel and going to the add/remove programs and remove the software associated with the device. Then plug it in and hope that the plug and play will recognize it and install it again and that it will work again. Good luck.
