Love thy neighbor?

Three years ago, we started a band and practiced at our house. At first there was some problem with the neighbors. Even though we practiced in the early afternoon and ended before sundown and only one weekends the cops were still called. As time went on things slowly smoothed out and the complaints stopped and everyone was pretty much cool with each other. They would still wave at us and talk to us about where we would be playing. A year later a new neighbor moved in. And the problems started up again. The cops called all the time on us. Finally she came over and we talked about what time it wouldn't be a problem to play. We agreed that we could practice on Sundays in the early afternoon and not too late. Due to the amount of shows we got we didnt have to practice every weekend anymore and it was quite a while before it was time to practice again due to a new drummer. It was a early Sunday afternoon when she called the cops on us. We weren't playing when the cops drove by and the lady ran out of her gate to chase him down. Then she came over and said she thought we agreed we wouldnt play on Sundays. Which wasnt the case. So anyway we moved like 2 weeks later which totally looks like we moved because of her, which was conveniently when the sale went through. We could've done things different sure but we did try to keep everyone happy also. So my question is: If there is a problem neighbor that has no shown and animosity towards you, would you go to their door and settle right then and there? or would you just call the cops?

Over the years I have always tried to work out problems with the neighbors face to face...that's really the only way to a resolution. I wouldn't call the police unless I'ved tried working with the neighbor and my attempts have failed. The thing about music is that it's pretty personal and somene who may seem completely rational when in discussion can turn into a raving lunatic once the music starts if it's something that person does not like at all. Good luck in your new digs.

Thanks for your response. We decided to skip the problems and rent a studio now that we can afford it.

I would try to settle things with my neighbor first. If it becomes to a situation where we can't agree and it's dangerous then I'd call the cops but that has never happened.
